p.8 #1 · Pre-Order Sony Alpha A1 (50MP, 30fps, 8K)
Killer camera for pro sports/wildlife photographers and advanced hobbyist birders. But for most amateurs like me, who own A7RIV and A9 it might make more sense to stay with the dual bodies. At least if you travel (remember that?) you will have a backup body if the other fails. Can't see many, other than pros, having the A1 and a backup body. I suppose an amateur could do A1 + A7C/A7III. But damn that's a lot of dosh.

I love this approach. It feels serious. Sony highlighted actual artists. Don’t need a bunch of noise from the peanut galleries of self promoters, only some of whom take above average pictures.

Sony's entire camera marketing strategy to date has been to use influencers to sell its cameras. This isn't something that happened to Sony without their awareness. They were materially involved in the strategy.
To those cheering about Sony seemingly limiting their target to professionals, the reality is a camera like this can't be successful if enthusiasts and dilettantes don't buy it too. That's been true for the last few generations of "pro" cameras from all camera makers, ever since the implosion of photojournalism departments across the country.

Not a lot of discussion on the ISO specs. I know we are gaining x2 the resolution of the A9 which I own but from what I see that also means we are losing half the high ISO ability of the A9 (just comparing the specs on paper).
Low light performance will dictate whether any wedding photographer (actually interested in this) should pursue it.
A9 has been great for me for weddings but I always long for a bit more resolution for when I crop. This seems like just a bit too much overkill in all departments and of course price. Doesn’t mean it’s not an absolute BEAST of a camera though.

It's interesting that so far, Sony was not able to improve IBIS beyond 5.5 stops. I'm sure they tried hard.
Curiously though all 5 axes of IS will now work even with adapted lenses where no focus distance is reported.
I like that for my adapted macro lenses.
"All 5 axes of stabilization will function at all times, even when used with third-party lenses and adapters or lenses with built-in optical stabilization."
Wonder how they pulled that off and if lenses with built in IS will still be better.

Ugh... buffer size and speed is the main problem with the A9 series cameras for me. If they fixed the clearing speed to be at least 4x faster than the a9 ii, then that buffer size is acceptable, but if it's comparable then the 30 FPS feature will be heavily compromised.

I guess Sony finally blinked on the demand for lossless RAW compression, but they seem to be saving an two-way articulated rear screen and sensor dust removal for future model rollouts...

It may be that improvement beyond 5.5 requires more low frequency long excursion tracking. The e-mount may limit the long excursion more than the Canon mount. That's 100% speculation.

I’m thinking Sony is going to crack down on the peanut gallery after DPR leaked the 35GM. I like this ambassador approach a lot more.
