I think this is what it is, but I have to say this was far worse than I've ever experienced, and just fidgeting my face didn't resolve it, had to come completely away, and draw the camera to my eye at an angle. Hopefully the sensitivity or whatever it is can be tweaked in firmware, or I was just unfortunate in the conditions
A few times I've had to go up and down a couple times and even had to resort to using a Custom Key I have programmed to switch between EVF and LCD in order to get the EVF to show up.

I'm using a Fittest L bracket on my A7R4 and moved it to the A1. I wanted to use the USB port to charge and the flaps are a little further back on the camera and won't open. Looks like the side will need to be removed until a slight tweak is made (to this design at least).
Anyone have an L bracket that allows the port covers to be opened without having to remove the side?

FedEx just delivered my A1. For a few minutes, I thought it was defective. The media door wouldn't pop open when I pushed the button. Turns out you have to push the button and slide the door toward the back for it to open.

Looking at the size of the Nikon Z9, I personally am so glad that Sony did not make the A1 with an integrated gripe! I want the flexibility of it being small when needed, like travel, landscape... Not everyone who buys the A1 only uses with big lenses for birds. The A1 will pair with my A7RIV for all other stuff too.

I was actually surprised how much chunkier A1 feels in hand compared to A7III. I didn't notice it going through the specs, as on paper the differences are rather small. It took me a couple of days to get used to though...
Definitely feels better with a lens like Sigma 35mm f1.2 but on the other hand makes Sigma 45mm f2.8 look even more silly (which is a shame as my impression is that AF-S is noticeably faster on A1) .

Went out again..... horrible flat filtered light. AF and BEAF were awesome. No viewfinder issues at all this time, so it must have been the harsh over the shoulder light/angle the the late morning. My first opportunity for good conditions at a good spot will be Saturday am, really looking forward to it.

I'd be beyond nervous going right in to a shoot with a camera I just took out of a box. Good luck!
I have backups with me so far so good. I’d say A1 is 1/3 stop more noise than the a9ii at iso6400 but not perceivable at an output of 5500px longest edge.

This has been happening to me quite often with the A1 yesterday and today. Today, the sun was definitely directly behind me and it was happening a lot. What is strange to me is that I even tried to disable the 'auto' monitor/VF, and leave it just on the VF. The black VF would still occur even though the rear monitor was off. To me, the sensor on the VF shouldn't need to detect anything in this case. I'm going to keep an eye on the sun position and see if that does anything. Any thoughts as far as the LCD being disabled and it still happening?
EDIT- I just read through the linked thread and it seems like it will still happen even with the monitor off. It seemed really weird to me since I never had this happen with either my A9 or A7Riv.

That was my first response as well. Sony's dedication to smaller and lighter remains true. I shoot birds and will never add a grip. If I were in the Nikon system I'd be super disappointed, as I'd be essentially gated out of their high performance line due unecessary size and weight.

I wonder if shooting right eye or left eye would make a difference. I shot today this morning around 11:00 am and didn’t have any issues but will watch out for this. I shoot with only the. EVF and can switch to LCD manually with a programmed button.

Ran into the evf issue with the R4 a few days ago. Situation was bright sun coming at me. I had 40 something portraits to shoot in freezing cold wind - these kids were in shorts - it wasn't fun to be like "sorry wait my camera is being stupid"

Not my experience when downsizing to the A9ii 24 MP and accounting for the AA filter, which the A1 doesn't have. After doing so both are similar, but with more detail/finer grain on the A1.

Probably depends on where the sun is. I shoot right eyed, sun was behind, right, and fairly high 10+am. In the afternoon it was thin overcast and very flat, no issues at all. I'll have the sun at my back again Saturday, although much closer to sunrise.

Happened to me quite a bit with the A7R4. Only happened when direct sun hit the proximity sensor. Much worse in Florida than for more "typical" sunshine at home. Simple workaround was to keep the camera in the shade from my body (and keep it clean). A more thorough workaround was to cover most of the sensor with tape.

I have some little stick on things for dimming led lights on appliances in the house, maybe I'll cut one down and throw it in the bag in case it happens again to give the sensor 'sunglasses'.
Once other hot tip I don't think I've seen here yet. Saw mention of this on FB and found the setting. You can have playback show the focus point used in camera if you want (only unzoomed).
