When the a1 was first announced I called my local dealer and had asked if anyone else had called. He said “No, so you’ll be first on the list.” I called today and they said they didn’t get any. The owner of the store emailed me this a few minutes ago...
“We did get one for a Sony Pro member that must go to that member
You will get the next one that comes in that is for general public.
Sign up for Sony Pro and all products will be expedited for you now and in future.”
No idea when the next shipment is coming and I already sold my Leica system to make the return back to Sony. I have to cancel the project I have for this weekend since I booked it on the word of the owner saying I would get the first one. Being that there’s no word when the next one will come in I probably have to return the lenses I had picked up again because I have no way to test them for decentering until I have a body to use. Up until this past Friday the shop owner had reassured me that when the first one came in I would be getting it and it would probably be today.
From what I’ve been reading here, I assume he knew there was a pro ahead of me - or could anyone with Sony Pro status just call at any time and immediately jump to the front of the list?

..the same here in Germany - I was also on first on the list of a small dealer - and expected to get my A1 at the 25.03 but there where someone more important than I ;-)
But today he mailed, that my A1 is on the way to me

I do not see the delivery date on the B&H site yet when viewing from my ipad on the app. I am seeing a charge on my Payboo account for the full amount as of today. So that looks promising.

I would not worry so much. First you will get charged once that happens than it moves on to the warehouse to pull for shipping and than getting Fed x numbers and such. BH does 98 percent of all business on line so it’s a big process to actually get that tracking number. They are very good at it. I’ve been buying and visiting them for decades. If your ever in NY you need to go in and shop. It’s amazing

Was there about 2 years ago. It was a lot of fun. Been buying from them for a very long time. I told my wife who was with me it was owned by Jews as are some other large camera stores and as a Jew, she thought that was pretty cool. Good time.

You could always pick up a A7RII off the buy/sell board here to use (at the very least to check your lenses) until you get the a1 then sell it for the same you bought it for. That would probably be less hassle then returning all the lenses and re-buying

For those who ordered on Amazon; anyone get a shipping update for this week? I got the note saying it got bumped to Mar 24-Apr 15 estimated, but then I just noticed that my CC has the pending charge on it.. Hoping that's a good sign

Mine is confirmed to ship tomorrow, 1-day shipping. I will have it in hand around 3pm on Wednesday but work will get in the way on Thursday and therefore Friday will be the first shooting day.
Got my R5 buyer all lined up. Now to find an A9II buyer....D

Take your Wife down to the funeral home and take a look at the burial suite choices. Point out that none of them have pockets in them for a reason. You aren't taking any cash with you.
Then tell her that now you have saved enough for retirement and have reached that milestone. Retirement is the last stage of functional life. You will be dead soon, and the only thing you know for sure about death is that you will be dead a very long time. You plan on enjoying the time you have left. Then go buy the camera.
My Wife has a saying on why she isn't fond of the idea of retirement. She says that for her retirement just means "twice the husband on half the money". Despite my advanced years, I have no plans on retiring ever. I enjoy being busy.
That funeral home and no pocket angles are new to me but as of now, I am already without cash most of the time. She seemed to believe in retirement as my to do list keeps on getting longer - I guess the twice the husband thing .

Had tried the A900 and A850 before and it looked like she doesn't care about the differences in the results, just the cost but when I allowed her to travel to Middle East (pilgrimage), to the Philippines/Thailand/Australia with her niece/sisters but w/o me; the cost did not seem to matter . Sort of birding trips to Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama the past few years only satisfied her appetite for a quick looks on birds. Anyway the previously negotiated gears fund would still allow me get a used A9 and the 200-600 later on this year. Quite hard to justify a 6.5K body for birding purposes when I could only do birding maybe 2X/month or less. Better when I was still working when I could practice some photography before work and during lunch time from a park trail beside the office.

Not worried at all and did not mean to convey that. It will get here when it get’s here. Zero time outside of work available this week to play with it anyway. It was just interesting that it showed up on my Payboo account. Looks like B&H is going to be shipping a bunch of A1’s tomorrow.
As to B&H, I have been buying from them since the early 1980’s. I am very familiar with them and have been to their store multiple times. Pretty cool place to go, and looking forward to going there again when we can.
