It's hard for me to understand your dealer's behavior if you bought 600 GM from him... but maybe it's not as rare a sale as I think (I thought A1'a price will limit its adoption, but it seems the supply is the limiting factor). I do understand your frustration though, fingers crossed enough people before you cancel their preorders (happened for me, or that's at least what my dealer told me ).
Me too...in the last year it's been the 600mm, a second A9II, the A7SIII, pre-order for the 35mm, an FS5-II and now and FX-6....I actually think he really feels he has to stick with the SPS list. Sony actually said they will notify him I've joined and should be on his list but probably too late. I'm sure I'll have one in a few weeks, I just had a shoot planned and had hoped to use it. Oh well.

I had my ordered confirmed within 20 seconds of opening it up for orders and, being and SPS member, filled out the form and received confirmation from Sony. My order is still showing ‘New Order’ so, I called B&H and was assured my camera will ship Tuesday. 🤞

Gil, it's your time to be happy. I believe if she sees the pure joy then her survival mode will melt away with humanistic empathy.

I am one of those who could afford this price tag if I am not married now. Having worked in the tech industry here in Silicon Valley, my current home value and retirement account should be able to comfortably support me even to a worst scenario of the 50-50% separation case.
I have conditioned my wife for up to 4K only for the past year and traded already about $1K in entry level gears. I just formally retired last month and but still qualify for the coming California $400 and the new $1400 federal stimuli. Even with these, the wife was not happy with the $6.5K price for my birding needs (I still have some SLT and P&S for macros and flower shots). When the wife is not happy, there would be no harmony at home from the kitchen to the laundry to the bed (bedkeeping of course ). For now, just acquired the A6600 body so that I could play with also the newly bought LEA5. I could also target the A9 as I expect it to be below $2K later on this year if the A1 lived up to its hype. Yes, to some, marriage is not a hindrance but for me, it is a big consideration.
cheers,
gil

Take your Wife down to the funeral home and take a look at the burial suite choices. Point out that none of them have pockets in them for a reason. You aren't taking any cash with you.
Then tell her that now you have saved enough for retirement and have reached that milestone. Retirement is the last stage of functional life. You will be dead soon, and the only thing you know for sure about death is that you will be dead a very long time. You plan on enjoying the time you have left. Then go buy the camera.
My Wife has a saying on why she isn't fond of the idea of retirement. She says that for her retirement just means "twice the husband on half the money". Despite my advanced years, I have no plans on retiring ever. I enjoy being busy.

You may have to explain the $1,000 worth of Tc's full frame will require to get equivalent framing from your crop sensor...the list goes on. Of course the trip back to the Philippines may require a new lens or two.

We have no idea how much the other folks have spent or if that’s even factored into the vendors decision.

Good philosophy, especially the retirement. I have no plan to retire either unless I can’t do it physically or mentally. Meanwhile a little extra spending money on gear, vacations or helping the kids put.

It seems like with each new “hot” product introduction we go through this scenario no matter if it’s Nikon, Canon or Sony. Though I have purchased small, harder to find items from B&H in the past and have been very happy with their service, I still prefer my local pro level camera stores for such things as the A9ii, A1, D850, Nikon 500mm PF lens, etc. I’m lucky to have 2 stores to choose from. The know me at both stores, and I’m usually at the front of the line with new cameras and lenses that I want. I call in to do a pre-order and it’s setup for me (no credit card required). In this case I have a Sony SPS and used to have Nikon NPS, but it’s not a requirement for me to receive priority service from the store. It’s pretty hard to get this level of service from B&H or Adorama even though they are fine merchants. The “online” experience is not as good as in person contacts at a local store. I don’t mind paying sales tax and in my opinion it’s well worth it to keep local, smaller stores in business.

If SPS does its job done, your dealer should have updated list tomorrow and your name should jump up to the top of the first shipment list. Just contact your dealer tomorrow to make sure they check their email from SPS.
Few pages back, someone mentioned that he "fat fingered" order of 2 cameras instead of 1 but he is afraid of changing his original order. Maybe, he can sell you that second copy if you really need it so quickly?

You're right, it's the same rigamarole at every new release for the past several years (maybe before that, but I only recently began paying attention): Company X releases new product. Demand exceeds supply. Some customers receive theirs first. Some customers have to wait. Some of the customers who have to wait threaten to take their business elsewhere.
No joke -- it's like clockwork! And it sucks, but sometimes we just gotta wait. I had to wait with the R5 and actually ended up buying it used.

Hmmm ... I just got charged by B&H and order now says "Order in Progress". I wonder if that means it might ship today rather than tomorrow ... no worries for me either way.
