Hmm...I wonder if you will be able to do high speed sync flash with the electronic shutter then? I really hope that the removal of the full mechanical shutter does not trickle down to the a7iv. With my a7iii, I do a lot of portrait shooting wide open with HSS flash outdoors and I always use the fully mechanical shutter to prevent adverse affects on bokeh. The fact that the a7c doesn’t have a fully mechanical shutter option made it an absolute no go for me, but I had been intending to look at the a7iv when it is released. For the way I shoot, this is actually a pretty big deal.

Judging by this, the electronic shutter is meant to be used for high shutter speed:
"In the following situations, set the [Shutter Type] to [Auto] or [Electronic Shutter].
When shooting with a high-speed shutter in a bright environment such as outside in bright sunlight, the beach, or snowy mountains."
If that is the case, you'd only need the mechanical shutter for very fast motion, some flash shooting, and bulb.

I have it in my hands now here in Germany and it sure is a beast of a camera. Having owned both the a9 and r4 it will replace both cameras (and get accompanied by a GFX100s). Noise performance is pretty similar to the a7r3, noticeably better than r4 and of course shooting this speed with this detail will change my indoor sports photography for a good.

That’s next week! Finally
Does anyone know if registering with Sony Pro program indeed speeds up delivery from big camera stores in US? Haven’t heard about this possibility before some Canadian folks started to mention it here on FM

Both US and Can Pro Support members were sent emails with an online form to fill out where you gave your invoice/order number and the store you preordered from. So that does point to some priority system in place.
In Canada my dealer told me that Sony had told them that Sony would be assigning the first batch of cameras to the Pro Support Members. This is why my dealer said I may not get my day one preorder (I'm 1st in line) if I wasn't Pro Support...so I joined Pro Support and hopefully now I will stay at the #1 spot on my dealers list. Haven't heard any updates since.

I called Sony Pro Support last week and asked them to resend the email so I could register my pre-order I have at Adorama. The Service Rep said no problem and it would certainly help get the camera in my hands sooner if I filled it out and sent it back. I guess I'll find out how much it helps soon. I did not get my pre-order in until 2 weeks after the initial date.

Preordered within minutes at Adorama, not Pro. I just called and they now tell me availability on April 22. 35mm GM on April 12. Frustrating! Will be looking for faster alternatives, if Adorama cannot deliver in a timely manner. Any recommendations?

Amazon has never let me down for Sony cameras. The US site is still taking pre-orders with no warnings about shipment delays. Not sure if they will actually ship by/on the 4th, though.

Agreed, I've gotten the A7r3, RX1r2 and A7r4 on launch day from Amazon over the years. I was hoping they'd update my order with a date by now, though...

This is sort of 3rd hand information, a friend of a friend commented on a Flickr post that he was now on the order list for the A1 in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) and said that orders there were pushed back to April.
Now I don't know if he just meant that him getting his order in late in the game meant they are estimating April for him or if they meant that Sony pushed back orders to April in general?
So far I see no change on the Adorama, B&H nor my Canadian dealer's website from the March 4th date.

I'd be surprised if there was a general delay as they have already started to be delivered in april. That said it sounds like demand was very high so those farther back on the list or smaller shops might be,

Yesterday the first ones got their A1 delivered (in my country).
So I dont think so.
