Just received the 35/2 DG DN. What'a beauty.
Didn't test much but it's well centered and sunstars look best at f/22. (expected for a round-blade aperture)
18-point sunstar

Great. Look forward to your test.

Hopefully I can take off early and do some test. Not much need to verify but I want make sure there are no decenter before exchange window close. I have been quite lucky with sigma lenses. I bought 14-24,24-70 and 45 all brand new and none of them have problems.

The moment we all have been waiting for. The lens is waiting in my shopping cart, pending verification (AKA Fred's review)

These were not taken at the same distance, but they weren't perfectly matched from a distance to post perspective either. It's hard to compare a 55mm lens to a 65mm lens.

In my shooting so far, I haven't found really any scenario where the Sigma is busy or nervous....or not well behaved. Honestly I haven't been shooting the FE 55 much in the past couple of years, so I hesitate to say it's worse (or better) in that regard. But I can honestly say that I REALLY like what I see from my shots from the Sigma.

Jonas B wrote:
It's not clear the Sigma is sharper. It looks that way but these images are taken at the same distance so the magnification at the plane of focus is different.
The Sigma has less LoCA (and less vignetting). The Sony seem to win the popular transition zone contest.

Hmm... Until I can make a direct comparison I'll just keep the The Samyang 75/1.8. As usual that depends on what we (or I in my case) want from the lens and the Samy75 does surprisingly well this far!

I'm liking it very much. I just did a quick field curvature test and it's surprisingly flat-field!
Not many 35mm lenses can do this.

Personally, I was pretty much set on getting the 35mm GM but that was until the Sigma 35/2 arrived at my door step.
The build quality is outstanding, especially for the price and rendering is actually a plus as well. I really don't want to be forced to buy both. ;-)

I added the CV 50/2 APO for comparison (Sigma 65/Sony 55)

Yes that's how I was feeling. I ordered the Sigma, and the GM came out, and seemed lovely and way smaller than I thought, so I thought to myself "this could be the One AF 35 and I could sell my f1.2 Behemoth.

A friend kindly agreed to buy my Sigma i-series at the (very low) price I paid, and said he'd be happy for me to put it through its paces before shipping it to him.

I tried it out, and contacted him to confirm he could buy one new at as good or better price as I had paid, as I wanted to keep it!

I expect the GM will be even better - certainly a little sharper at f2 going by Lenstip, who are pretty reliable for chart-distance tests. But the reality is that both are just about record breaking stopped down a bit, and all you need at wide apertures, so really that is not a consideration. The GM rendering might be great too, we have to wait and see.

But even though the GM is very small for an f1.4, the little i-series is usefully smaller and lighter, a great little walk-around and travel lens.

So the question is do I keep the Sigma f1.2 for super wide stuff, and have a 2-sigma solution, or sell the Sigma and embrace the GM, which will give me f1.4 and maybe usefully even better performance at f2?

I REFUSE to end up with all of the Sigma behemoth, the GM, and the i-series.....

This is the thing. I have a soft spot for lenses that feel good in the hand like Zeiss and Voigtlander. I never thought we would have autofocus lenses that handle similarly to these lenses. Even Zeiss own autofocus lenses are not like that. Is the build quality of the 35mm better than the 45mm F2.8?

Are you at least going to post some comparisons or share some thoughts?

p.s. Resistance is futile

You have an even bigger problem! Literally.

To be honest, I was not very thrilled with any native E-mount 35mm lens. (and we have dozen options!)
I already like the Sigma 35/2 and will compare it to the Sony GM. When this day comes, I will have to make a decision.

Yes, that's what gets a lot of people, myself included. I really appreciate the craftsmanship and enjoy shooting with it. Just like shooting with high quality manual focus lenses.

I've posted a few images, but nothing more for a bit as work is hotting up. I will review it though, and when I start collecting samples for that may post some along the way.

I’ve rented the 65/2 using it for part of a baby/family shoot on a CL alongside my main R6 + RF 50L. Can’t share pics here, but I’m very pleased. High sharpness, gentle contrast. B&W conversions remind me of neopan 400 + rigid 50 summicron, a combo I loved back in the day.

I found the Sigma 35mm f2 on Amazon sold by Amazon. It was buried in the other sellers but is $100 cheaper for some reason. Delivery date is Feb. 26 - Mar. 28.

I may have to cancel the 35mm GM because of this deal and what I am seeing in these posts.

Had one also in my cart for $539. $100 off but didn’t pull the trigger. It’s already gone. For now will stick with my RX1RII as my 35 mm f2. It will be interesting to see the comparison between the two.

I pulled the trigger, I figured I would have ample time to cancel. At least that's what I told myself....

It would be interesting to know how it compares to the Tamron 35/2.8 for landscapes. The latter is a top lens.
