Why is it so hard to get the facts right as a reviewer?
The lens is NOT weathersealed.

I just have to make sure I'm understanding this... 35i is finally enough to displace the RX1? So the 35i on an A7 for example gets close enough rendering and much better ergos?

We are in agreement. I like the 35i so much, that I am no longer even pre-ordered on the GM 35. The 35i is as close as we are getting to an RX1 as far as I am concerned. I have a 35/1.4 Apoqualia which has a wild fun draw and only weighs 120g. Together they are still lighter than the GM 35. One is a very smooth modern controlled rendering, the other has much more character but can produce gorgeous files.

Happy camper here

Nah.

I’ll keep my RX1 because it still much smaller as a total package, I easily like the colors and contrast better and the rendering is still appreciably better to me in terms of smoothness (though in some other areas, the 35i easily wins).

I was saying that I was happy enough with the 35i, I am in no hurry for the GM 35. And I have no immediate plans to try it at this point.

Thanks for clarifying, that does make more sense. Guess it's a pipe dream to get RX1 IQ with a body that's enjoyable to use. Have to keep chasing that dragon...

I still do think the RX1 could be made way more ergonomic and generally useable with very minor tweaking...and I would still be way more interested in an RX1r3 with current incremental updates than any 35GM or 35APO or 35i. So it goes.

I can totally agree there. Personally 24MP is fine for me. Give me the A7III sensor, a small grip with the NP-FW50 batter and a good EVF (prefer not pop up, even if the body is wider like a A6xxx series) and I’d be happy.

Cant beat my RX1 in terms of pure image quality except for my GFX setup (50R+50mm).... although both have slow AF

Exactly. Just add the Z100 battery, update AF system, add weather sealing and call it RX1R3. Would be an immediate buy for me

I would like to see that as well but with the recent release of great 35mm lenses and the A7C body, I'm afraid the market for a Sony RX1III shrunk even further.

I used to think this more, but the Leica Q has reportedly been quite successful. And enthusiast products are supposed to be what’s profitable in the shrinking camera market. I personally think that we might see an RX1 now that all those other lenses are released, and I am thinking that we will get a Sony branded and engineered lens rather than a Zeiss. I think that has been part of the hold up as well. Perhaps wishful thinking, but I would not be surprised if one did or did not come out at this point.

To me, it was obvious but they deliberately crippled the EVF, manual controls, went with a dated sensor and the marketing to vloggers and such that the a7c is a bridge camera in the low tier of full frame, and not at all intended for the expensive enthusiast crowd like an RX1x

Make it around their 50mpix MF sensor and that would be unique. I just don't see the business proposition in today's market for a $3500 full frame fixed lens camera when there is just a flood of cameras / lenses that get you there with much more flexibility.

Anything is possible and I sure hope so. The Leica market does not mind paying the big bucks and Leica is playing well the "28/1.7 lux is a steal' game.

I know this doesn’t appeal to you specifically, but there are some people a single lens camera does appeal as the whole size/simplicity of a single FL/outstanding IQ in an appreciably smaller body will hold appeal. But you’re right, many will opt (and do) for the flexibility of a MILC.

Lol—in a funny way, the logic does have logic! And don’t forget about that Fuji X100 and GR line...it’s not just Leica with fixed lenses

That does appeal to me, despite all my own internal logical attempts to say that it doesn't. I loved my RX1, despite it's numerous flaws. I loved, and still have, my Fuji X100s. I look longingly at the used market for RX1RII's and read every review of newly released X100 series cameras. Every once in a while I check the used prices on Leica Qs.

No, it's not logical. Yes, it makes more sense to just buy, say, the Zony 35/2.8 for my A7R original and just leave it on. It doesn't matter. I still want to buy an X100V, I still try to figure out how I could save for a Q2, I still look on eBay for new or lightly used RX1RII's for an impossible deal....

Right, it’s not logical, but it is understandable. All three are really wonderful as daily carry cameras. Simple, joyful to shoot, great image makers.

You can reason that mounting a small, wide prime on your mirrorless body of choice is equivalent, but it isn’t. That’s the gear you leave at home.

It’s just appeared in English to, https://www.lenstip.com/600.1-Lens_review-Sigma_C_65_mm_f_2_DG_DN_Introduction.html

The Sigma 65/2 C does indeed set a new resolution record!

Well not really. There are lots of lenses they haven’t tested.
We know the APO 50 is even a bit better than the APO 65. They haven’t even got that lens listed, let alone tested.

I have owned the APO 65 and still own the APO 50 and 110. The sharpest lens I’ve ever tested on Sony is the Canon TSE 90 II. Roger from lens rentals says the Sony 135 GM is the sharpest lens they have tested on a consumer budget.

I think all lenses up at this supremely awesome level (which the Sigma 65 is) are essentially more similar in IQ than dissimilar.
