In/out could be to lock the focus ring so it don’t expand or contract for travel. Not sure

Only thing I wish for is making these hoods more realistic, they are way overdone. But I’ll do what I’ve been doing forever is replace them with screw in metal hoods.

One thing for sure look nice on the A7C

Pretty sure in-out is directional travel of the hood.

The prices look good to me and weight of 35/2 at 325g is good too. No info on weight of 24/3.5 yet it seems. I'll almost certainly get both 24/3.5 and 35/2 in E-mount.

405g for the 65/2 has my attention. That's the one I'll be watching most closely.

Both of those weights strike me as a nice balance of build/heft and lightness.

Are these lenses extending when focusing? Not internal focusing?

These lenses look really promising. I am especially interested in the 35 f/2, but I think the 65 f/2 could be interesting as well. I would love to see a 100 or 105 f/2.5 which I think could still be fairly small and I think a 35, 65, 105 combo could be really nice.

I am less interested in the 24mm, but even that could be a nice addition to the right kit. I am glad to see Sigma releasing these lenses.

My only minor gripe is that I am not sure where my 45 f/2.8 fits with these new lenses. I suppose a 24mm and 45mm combo of relatively slow and small lenses may be very nice especially in one rarely uses shallow depth of field. That would need something like an 85 or 90 f/2.8 to complete the set, however.

I suppose that would give a 24 f/3.5, 45 f/2.8, and ~85 f/2.8 for a very small but somewhat slow aperture kit and a 35 f/2, 65 f/2, and ~105 f/2.5 small and moderately fast kit. That with their Art lenses out to give Sigma a lot of flexibility with primes.

That's what it is on the 45mm, so yeah.

45C FBW is excellent—and I speak as an owner of manual-focus glass across Leica M, R, Contax/Yashica, Canon FL, EF, Nikon F. I know you have similar experience.

I especially like the DMF implementation, which makes it MF on steroids, and makes for a perfect transition between the 45mm and the Loxias I own (imagine the experience would be similar with the Voigtländers).

You can half press and then adjust focus with magnification, and it magnifies the subject of focus, which if you use face-detection or eye-AF magnifies the detected face/eye. You can also track, recompose, auto-focus, and then manually adjust focus on the tracked subject.

I wish some of this was possible to use in MF so it'd work with the Loxias (face-detection to inform focus magnification should be possible even starting with slightly out of focus images).

I like the FL choice for this series. It lets me hope that the DG DN 50mm will be in the Art series.

At least 45/2.8 DG DN is internally focusing and doesn't extend externally at all when focusing. I would expect the new ones to be similar.

These Sigma lenses are so beautifully crafted, like the Voigtlanders. I may get the 35 just to own it even though I know I won't use it much, like my CV 35 f1.2

I agree. It’s refreshing to see more lens designs incorporate older, more tried and tested forms. Beauty in function for sure.

The heck does that clutch do? Or is it only there to have 2 more ingress points for water? Keep refreshing Nokishita but to no luck

Now they just need to add a magnetic filter adapter, could finally have a nice upgrade to filter threads...

The 35/2's MFD is 0.27m.

Has Sigma said anything about these lenses in terms of their design goals?

Before the release of the 45/2.8 DG DN I believe they announced they were aiming to create a particular look with unusually smooth bokeh. I confess I didn't believe them, I thought it was just marketing talk to try to sell a 2.8 lens when many were wanting a 1.8 or 2... Obviously I was very wrong and Sigma delivered on their promise and the 45 has a gorgeous rendering.

So I wonder if they have said anything about these new lenses? A quick google search didn't bring anything up.

They have yet to be announced! You can count on Sigma though to give a clear and thoughtful presentation that features some of these considerations. Their presentations are most pleasant to watch, so be sure to check it out.

Ah ok yes best let them announce them first

I will admit that I am generally far too cynical about things and typically wouldn't ever pay much attention to product presentations and normally just wait for reviews... but with the 45/2.8 Sigma really earned the credibility to be listened to with their claims so I will look forward to their announcement.

Agreed, and I'm hopeful if only for a couple reasons. First they said they wanted to create a line similar to the 45, so I think their design goals will remain similar. And normally wouldn't think about bokeh on a 24mm f/3.5 but since it will do 1:2, they might put some emphasis on it. The 35 and 65 seem to be slightly different though, so it'll be interesting if they have slightly different priorities there.

To join in on the speculations...if the “design goal” includes a sluggish AF on Sony cams, good luck to them!

Given that the filter thread diameters are all over the place, we can safely rule out that is in their list.

The Zeiss Batis series uses 67mm filters on all lenses except the 18/2.8, which has got a whopping 77mm filter size. This isn’t an ideal solution either with über-size lenses. I go for the Sigma approach as the lesser evil.
