p.97 #1 · Pre-order: Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM ($1,399)
Me- Preordered when announced. Canceled when delayed. Pre-ordered again after seeing photos on the forum. Canceled again swearing and deciding my Sigma 35mm F2 was good enough. Ordered again yesterday when I saw Best Buy had them in stock. Resistance was futile. Going to receive it tomorrow. Why do I do this to myself! Ugh. However excited to get it!

I just spoke with B&H and it sounded like I missed the boat on the initial shipment. They don't even have information on when next one comes. Hopefully not a repeat of 24mm GM. If so, I'll be forced to choose a different 35mm.

HA HA! Ditto. Just returned the Sigma today and they were happy to take it back from me since upgrading to the GM On a side note I tried to sell my CV35mm 1.2 (since it will be redundant ) which is only 4 months old and perfect. They wanted to give me 300
I never buy lenses for investments but man CV glass does not hold any value what so ever anymore.

I feel you on that. It’s not just CV glass. I took my 24-70GM to a local camera store to see what they’d offer me as store credit and they said $650. I sold it 2 days later for $1750 lol.
A lot of people complain about the lack of support for mom and pop shops, but it’s hard for me to support them when this is the kind of bs I get.

My 35mm GM order placed April 5th with B&H shipped 2 day expedited FedEx delivery on Monday, but the delivery window scheduled for today is come and gone. Kinda hard to delivery on time when the package sat with FedEx for 18 hours Tuesday at Newark NJ airport, then 10 minutes before midnight last night was transferred to Memphis TN, only to sit there for 17 hours through the night and most of today
It is now back in the air to the West Coast, hopefully to be delivered tomorrow. Or not, what's another day? As I have been waiting for this lens since the 24mm F1.4 GM was announced 2-1/2 years ago.

I've posted here with 2 previous copies og the 35 GM, with both having a soft top right corner (though I understand that we can't expect perfect lenses, I'd like one where the corners are in the same ballpark). The consensus was to replace it which I did and received the third copy today.
This one has corners that are much more similar, with the top left a smidge softer than the other 3 (though only really seen at 200%).
So, depending on your expectations and your thresholds for return, you may want to check the corners to establish if they are similar, or save the hassle, don't check them and just use it.
An issue is, if you find one corner is too soft, and you return it, how long would you have to wait for a replacement?

Just to everyone know that apparently Bestbuy has this lens in stock, I ordered yesterday and got a shipping notice this morning. I canceled my Amazon order which has been strangely delayed till May.

I didn't have any pre-orders, but my local dealer had the GM in stock today, and I couldn't resist picking this up along with the Sigma 85 DG DN!
I think I'm going to end up with that lens combo as well shortly. Now I just need to decide if I want to go ahead and pull the trigger on a used A9II, or wait to see if we get an A7 IV announcement in the next month or two and what specs it ends up getting.

I have the A7III and will consider an upgrade to the A7IV when released. However, my dealer pulled out a new A1 and was trying to tempt me, but not for me especially since I just paid for the 35/85 combo.

I kept thinking about the 1.4 on hand in AF. Thats pretty powerful to me at times
I will test them head to head.
The one thing that bugs me on the Sigma is the distortion.
I am one of those people that actually use more light. Sure the 1.4 blur can be fun/interesting...but more light is also very useful too when I need it, and I usually need it.

Cross-post from the 35i post since you guys are talking comparisons here.
I agree that the main difference between f1.4 and f2 is largely a matter light gathering... if you want to get hyper critical about the bokeh...the Bigma is where its at. if/when lighter gathering starts to matter matter, it really matters... But if you only pull the camera out in good light, then it's immaterial. Horses for courses.
GM AF also noticeably better...but 35i not bad at all. 35mm is not really an action oriented focal length because the shooting distance is usually pretty close. 35i AF more than good enough for my kids.
