I agree that the main difference between f1.4 and f2 is largely a matter light gathering... if you want to get hyper critical about the bokeh...the Bigma is where its at. if/when lighter gathering starts to matter matter, it really matters... But if you only pull the camera out in good light, then it's immaterial. Horses for courses.
GM AF also noticeably better...but 35i not bad at all. 35mm is not really an action oriented focal length because the shooting distance is usually pretty close. 35i AF more than good enough for my kids.

Count me in as another who received a sharp and centered copy - i’m reading mailbox numbers crystal clear at infinity wide open using Fred’s method. This thing is a razor, and the size you just can’t beat.

Better bokeh?
Yes. Bigma OOF transition zone is more smooth and bokeh is more creamy. A page or two back on this thread, a side-by-side comparison is posted between Bigma and GM that clearly highlights this difference.

Received my 35 GM today and just got through taking some shots. I think everything looks great. Quite impressed. Really like the rendering. My Sigma 35i may have to find a new home. The Sigma is great but no sense in me having both. The GM actually seems to be 35mm as well unlike the 35i. The GM feels great on both my R4 and A7C and the AF seems fast and accurate. Its a keeper!

Also, just my luck, the smaller shop I preordered from (and subsequently cancelled after the Adorama shipment) just got back to me saying Sony just sent them some 35 GMs.

For those who have tested your copies, what method did you use to test for even corner sharpness? I am usually not picky about corners, but am getting a little nervous reading all the comments about inconsistent quality control of this lens.

FYI for anyone thinking of waiting to learn more about the Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG DN before pulling the trigger on the GM, it looks like it is being officially announced on the 27th: https://twitter.com/nokishita_c/status/1385397227623915521.

I used Fred’s test - focusing manually on object at infinity in the center, and then rotating camera until that same object appears in all four corners (never refocusing after initial focus is set). My copy had uniformally sharp corners wide open, and quite sharp at that.

I think mine has one corner that is softer than the rest unfortunately. The weather was not ideal today, so I'll have to go to the top of the hill when the skies clear and take some shots of the neighborhood to know for certain, but based on just shooting some comparisons today, looks like top right for me is just a bit softer than the rest.
Needless to say, I'm glad I haven't cancelled my other orders yet. My Best Buy order should arrive next Wednesday for comparison.
