I see very high resolution and contrast from the 35/1.4 GM (samples above)

I hope you don't mind me posting some crops from the image above to showcase the rendering. (We will start a new Image thread for this lens)

At mid distance where transition zone is visible in oof background, rendering looks a bit structure to me. (Not similar to FE 24/1.4 GM's rendering)
CA is also noticeable (even though the lighting was not contrasty)

Here are some crops from the samples above showing this:
@j4nu please let me know if you wish me to delete this post

Not very pleasant towards the edge

Outlining is visible here, which contributes to the structured draw. (axial CA noticeable)

CA and outlining

Foreground rendering looks great

No issues, Fred . I can send you raws, these are a bit processed (exposure, shadows/highlights and a bit of saturation).

I honestly am not impressed. I dont know what it is but there is no Mojo to it. Its not jumping out me. Even the test shots which BTW I do want to thank folks that post. I know I work hard at doing that so it does help make decisions and the talk that goes with it.
Besides that its a good amount and I think this Sigma at half the cost is darn close to it.

The picture (haha) that I have after a weekend of shooting with the GM is that it's one biting, contrasty, sharp lens (to say the least). I'll be honest though, I'm a bit worried at what cost that was achieved.
I think 35i will ultimately have smoother rendering when shooting at the most demanding distances, where transition zones are visible and you cannot blur out the background.

Agree. This is what I stated several pages ago. I haven’t seen much appeal from the lens. Looks modern sharp and not overly smooth but not overly busy either—not much of a fingerprint. It will be known for it’s high contrast and sharpness from f1.4 in a comparatively small package. It seems that Sony went closer to the GM 135 route, rather than the smooth slightly softer rendering of the GM 24 and GM 85.

Not at all a bad thing, just not to my preference. For technical IQ and ease of use, this would rate extremely highly for me among 35mm’s. For rendering and my desire to shoot it, it would not even be top 7

Guys just go look at the BB test I posted . There test images nothing great but they render really nice. Im here to help you guys . im a little worried on this Sony for the cash.

I know what happens is people spend a good chunk of money but than decide to defend it. Dont do that , you need ice in your veins and rendering in your eyes. Its like picking a lovely spouse a heart of gold and just looks so pleasant to your eyes but does not cost a Rolls Royce.

Oh im going to burn for that one.

Don't be mean.

The rendering seems neutral just like with the 135/1.8 GM. (Not harsh nor smooth at transition). Agree here.
I was hoping the design priority was a bit different but it looks like it will win the resolution chart race for sure. Many will still prefer the Sigma 35/1.2 Art's rendering. Not because it's faster, just because it's smoother at mid/long distance.

I'd prefer something similar to 24/1.4 GM and 85/1.4 GM. Agree again. The good news is that the Sigma 35i did exactly that, so there is a lens for every taste.

Who is going to start the new "Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM Image Thread" ? Someone who already has the lens and wants to share samples. Thank you!

Yea agree Im not saying this lens is horrid or anything like that. Sharp is good actually very good but I like to see more balance. Im not a bokeh whore for instance , I like things to look natural.

Don’t make me post all the 35mm’s I’d prefer

And as you know, the 35i hit the sweet spot for me...and has been fossilizing my other 35mm’s

Isn’t it funny how things change? Couple years ago, Sigma was just producing monster razor sharp lenses with rendering as a secondary consideration one after another...now they have they 24/35/45i and probably more in the pipeline while Sony has put out the GM 35/50/135, the new compact G line and the FE 35.

And new Zeiss lenses, Batis or Loxia seem retired—and they were a big draw for E-mount initially.

Makes one curious for the future

All great guys, but 35GM was promised to be the holy grail:
* small
* sharp
* smooth
.
At least that's why I waited for it, ordered it, returned 35i when it just got announced for it and was going to sell the Bigma for it. Not so sure any more.
Ech, I guess you can't win them all.

For not much more than the the price of this GM I can buy both the Sigma 35/2 and the CV 35 APO.

Hmmmmm.....
