B&H GM 35 page now shows "Expected availability: End of Apr 2021"
Maybe B&H is already out of April 12, 2021 inventory or they just updated the April 12th availability date? Anyone receive April 12th GM 35 shipping emails from B&H?

Isn't that for people ordering like today?
It appears to also be for people like me that ordered on the first day preorder was available. Unless of course my lens has already been prepared for shipment and I am just waiting for the email...

My guess is B&H is communicating as soon as they can. I expected a 35GM availability update after they came off of one of their traditional lengthy holidays which was April 11th, I think.
I haven’t received one update from B&H since I placed my pre-order. I understand things get delayed, just keep your customers updated with what the status of their order (a brief explanation as to why it’s being delayed would be nice too).

Yea no big hurry either. Actually don’t really need it.
I’m looking at folks images and no offense to their shooting but I’m not seeing anything really jumping at me. Strictly speaking of look
Guy, you're hurting my feelings .
Anyways, just wanted to say I posted a couple of short comparisons to the Bigma in the other thread (https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1673762/70#15562515 and previous posts).
My impression is that the GM is sharper throughout the frame, while the Sigma is smoother and a bit better corrected for LoCA (at least at f1.4), so I guess nothing that was not said already .

I’m not trying to trust me it’s not the content believe me. I’m not seeing richness on saturation so much. I think really it’s the light in these countries I’m not used too.

Good idea, I checked my order placed maybe 1-2 minutes of preorder availability and see the "Backordered" label too.
At this point, I wonder how many preorder'ers have moved on since this whole cosmetic ring saga then the ship stuck in the Suez Canal went down. Not like emount is wanting for 35mm choices.
Personally, I'm in no big hurry for this lens and it doesn't cost me anything to be on a list, so maybe I'll end up being last man standing when it finally ships to the USA market
I did cancel my preorder for two reasons. The continued delay of the 35mm GM and now because a new Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG DN is supposed to be released. So will just hold off on the GM for now. In the mean time I will enjoy my 35i.

If the CV was available today than this Sony order be in serious trouble. But I do like your idea. I’m enjoying this sigma 35 F2 so I’m not jumping off the mountain over this Sony. Time for a espresso and a drive to go test my Sigma 35 F2. See if I fall in love

I think you may be one of many
Not like the old Sony alpha days when we all snapped up just about any new native lens Sony decided to release to the market. I think that approach is partly what helped Sony alpha sales grow as fast as it did. Now that we are saturated with Emount lens choices, not so sure the Sony alpha lens preorder GAS is anywhere near as strong as it once was. Or maybe once the world right-sides again, we will return to full force GAS preorders like we once did.
Now if Sony were to release a 28mm GM, I think the preorders would be record-breaking...again

I don't know Guy, from what I am seeing the Sigma 35 F2, might be the forum favorite so far. Let us know how you get on with the AF with this lens.

I tried two copies of the Sigma 35i. Both were examples of bad quality control. However, I will make a third try (following Fred's advice here despite having lost interest in the file).
I liked the size, of course, of the Sigma compared to the 35GM. Well, I hope it will work the third time as I wouldn't mind a good 35mm lens, with an aperture ring, less heavy than the 35GM.
Now that I have used the 35GM a little for something else but boring test images I really like it. Heavy but snappy. As I said in a previous comment: I'm pretty sure this will be a kind of classic performer!

Judging the LoCA from your images isn't easy. It probably never is... Anyway, not all agree about the Sigma beeing better corrected. My impression is one was best at one of the image pairs while maybe the other was a little better in another case.
It will be interesting learning what you and other owning both the lenses will prefer, and why so, in the long run!

Agreed, I posted the images so anyone can form their own opinion and there are already many different than mine...
Still, like I wrote, that's the impression I get, that there's a bit more fringing on high contrast / backlit surfaces and that's also what I see in the LoCA test photos of both lenses at lenstip for example.

My nightmare. I really dislike OCD inducing new lens testing, but quickly realized a necessary evil I can only image and perhaps envy the film era where it appears many photographers valued optical flaws/imperfections as sought-after character.

I just tried to get more reliable results by shooting a SpyderLensCal target, but I think I'd need a macro-rail or a lot more time to do this properly to achieve the same framing and DoF with these lenses... I'd say what I'm seeing is still unconclusive, as the GM looks a bit better now but it depends on the amount of blur on the scale ...

Ok, a couple pictures. Maybe a bit boring, but I'm just excited spring has finally awoken (and to redeem myself from too many commets in a image thread) .
