It's so sharp! Anywhere in the frame and even at close distance.

Thank you for sharing the link. Photos like Mr. Galer's further confirm that I made a good decision by pre-ordering. Some of his isolation shots at f/1.4 are stunning with both great sharpness at the plane of focus and excellent rendering/bokeh in transition and oof areas.

Indeed. Would be even sharper if he used a sensor without a low pass filter.

Mark also mentioned on his FB that the AF was almost instant. Even if he's overstating that a little its still very positive.

Contrary to others, Actually this set turns me off. Early link from LINE in Chinese samples also turn down my excitement a little.

I almost want to say this lens is too sharp. maybe it is the post process in both case. I don’t think anybody need show off sharpness in modern days especially for fast prime glass.

Just saying.

So...
I wanted to share with you how lucky I have been yesterday evening.
Luck has become a rare thing for almost a year, so when it comes it needs to be shared!

Yesterday afternoon, I received a newsletter from a photo shop in Paris, where I 've bought some gear a while ago.
It was about the promotion that are now happening in France.

And what can I read?

35mm 1.4 GM -27% at 1199 euros

Must be a mistake, have I said, let's have a look on the website. And what can I read: Both the ZA and the GM with the same promotion at 1199 euros.
It sure is a mistake, let's order it right now!

This morning I received a call from the shop, telling me that I will receive the lens in february since it is not yet here. Ok, I said, but since I've got you on the phone, wasn't it a mistake to have such a promotion on a lens not yet arrived?

Yeaaaah, he said, the webmaster made a mistake yesterday, we modified it when we saw it, but you were lucky enough to buy the lens before the modification. And we cannot cancel the order, it is legal...

Here am I with a preordered GM 35mm 1.4 with a special personnal price

Well, I'm not zhangyue but I can agree with the "almost...too sharp".

I noticed some ugly spots in the bottom right image (the biker) and downloaded the file. When checking we can see that some sharpening has been added, that there is some LoCA around edges and that the background highlights show green outlines together with a kind of "comet shape" also without being at the corners or borders. The top right corner is, simply put, not smooth.

It's clear some PP has taken place, sharpening obviously and then some. The skin tone? We can't blame the lens for that but it isn't pretty.

Now I don't know what this particular image would look like with other lenses. This is after all f/1.4 and a demanding situation. I also don't judge the problems as huge. I wish the raw file was available.

Again this is me... I would be turned on by nicer background highlights and smoother rendering of OOF corners. Less LoCA. I know, for USD 1400 and f/1.4 I can't ask for that. For the price here in Sweden (USD 1800 tax not included and a whopping USD 2250 with our tax) I kind of wanted a little more than what's showed here. The price is of course another Sony+distribution problem I don't really understand.

EDIT: ...and congrats to hesb!

@Jonas B holy crap. I didn't believe the price would be that inflated and almost spit out my coffee when I double checked.

Hmmmmmm... now I have to question whether my relatives in the states could QC a lens for huge problems. Be a lot cheaper to order it delivered to them and wait for them to arrive here with the lens in their carry-on . Either that, or maybe order it through amazon.de?

I wonder why this is such a huge problem with Sony lenses. I'd say maybe it's a Japan/Sweden problem, but Sigma doesn't seem to have the same arbitrary inflation in price.

Can they bring two? That route is assuming the QC is better compared to the rpoblems with the ZA 35/1.4 and possible warranty problems.
I also notice for example Foto-Mundus in Germany has set the price at EUR 1700 including German tax. As of now I don't know about any prices at amazon.de.

Nice sunstar as well!!!

Due to a mistake at my usual web-shop I got the GM ordered for almost 200$ less than normal pricing

put my 35/1.4 za up for sale on a swiss ebay equivalent, there are a couple of others as well, but I have proof that I am selling a stellar copy

@Jonas B amazon.se might be a viable alternative. See 24mm GM pricing

https://www.amazon.se/Sony-SEL-24F14GM-Master-vidvinkelglas-svart/dp/B07HLSFMQ8/ref=sr_1_1?crid=6PG8GBZTDZ5F&dchild=1&keywords=sony+24mm+f%2F1.4+gm&qid=1611402026&sprefix=sony+24mm+%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-1

Of course, now the only question is Amazon.se's return policy on decentering. Ugh, at most times I love that I live in Sweden now but this might be officially the worst country to buy camera gear in

Hmm I also think something is not right with Mark Galer's shots... maybe the shadows were pulled up a lot as the darker areas seem strange for ISO 100...

Which skin tone? Each relevant photo has a different skin tone even among a few of the same person. Looks like each image was processed with Custom WB and temp/tint are set differently for many of these images.

A photographer’s prerogative. Think of Ansel Adams Moonrise Over Hernandez as but one example of dramatic tonal rendition. The Life Magazine portraiture of W. Eugene Smith would be another.

As someone who appreciates a dynamic portrait, this work by Galer is evocative and motivates me to order the lens.

I find these images to be edited in Marc Galer's normal style, which is moderately heavy. As such you are judging his editing as much as the lens when looking at things like skin tones and sharpening. Maybe not the best way to judge whether a lens is for you or not.

I just realized Marc is what's called a "Sony Imaging Ambassador". Well... he just made me think I can just as well keep my Samyang 35/1.8 as buy anything Sony. Then all that is needed is fiddle around and fix everything in post. If I didn't know better I might have came to think Sony images really need a lot of processing.

Yes, I knew all about Marc Galer's affiliation with Sony and his typical post processing before I looked at his 35mm GM Flickr samples, but I'm still impressed with the lens and the photos provided by him and others who post more OOC examples. It's a definite BUY for me.
