p.2 #1 · R5 locking up!

I've had a lock up too with the RF 28-70, where neither the LCD nor the viewfinder responds to anything. Turning the camera off and turning it back on solved the problem.

Canon has to do something about that 20FPS ES, There should be an option to lower it 20, 15, 10 and 5 is my opinion...

I guess I'm relieved that everyone has had the problem? Haha that means it will be addressed in future firmware and it's not just my camera. But it's happened twice. It happened with the 135L and the EF 85L 1.4 attached. The camera went to sleep and never woke up. Had to cycle the power switch and it didn't do it again for hundreds of shots afterwards.

Lots of commentary and reviews have been circulating, but it seems like one photographer shared and option to accomplish that.

What option? Shooting in Single Shot one shot at a time or setting a burst limit that will inevitably limit you at the worst possible time during that once in a lifetime action shot

According to Canon Rumors, Canon is supposed to issue a firmware update within hours. I hope it will fix the lockup.

Updating firmware does not reset the video timer. Had 2 minutes left installed new firmware in 5 minutes and had 2 minutes left.

It doesn't seem very practical to update firmware frequently to reset the timer.

Paul Sullivan was quoted in the sentences I quoted from his post.

If you don't understand what he meant by an option, ask him.

Not sure who Paul Sullivan is but Pius Sullivan asked you what option you'd read about also? You are the one saying you read a solution to the 20FPS fixed ES limit. Can you provide a reference to that solution so I can read about it? Thanks.

OK, then just wait 6 hours.

No .. can't help you on that one.

I watched a lot of R5 videos, including Michael the Mavin's almost 2 hour tutorial. Wish I could recall, but it could be in any of them. But it seemed it referred to changing a FPS that others had been curious about. It may or may not be that exact thing, but possibly.

Would be glad to share it if I encounter it again. I will be repeating a few videos again.

Well after using the camera I can say that the only option is to shoot in One-Shot and pound the shutter as fast as you can to try and create your own frame rate. The burst limit I mentioned above is only on the 1DXIII so even that rather poor workaround isn't on the R5.

May not be another alternative.

I just watched 30 minutes of Michael the Maven's video again to see if there was something there, and didn't otherwise. Wasn't a waste of time though .. his tutorial covered so many features is was worthwhile for me to see the features.

Michael does excellent videos. I haven't watched the R5 one yet. Maybe once I get the camera.

Never had mine lock up and have shot around 3000 shots. However, its all been on one lens, 500L II (with and without the various version III EF TCs).

As far as the miss-info about the ES frame rate options, Arbitrage is right. I wish some of these YouTubers would test things before claiming they work. Anyone who has shot it will also feel the pain of shooting 2 shots when all you want is one. While this is a little annoying, it beats switching to single shot and struggling to pump the shutter release to keep up with the action.

One of the videos by Whistling Wings mentioned you could lower the ES shutter speed by switching from H+ to H, but I think he’s wrong. I couldn’t replicate what he suggested.

Only way to lower it(other than one shot) is with a very old lens. One old portrait lens of mine gets 15fps which I am still happy with.
