How's the AF with the 100-500 with that 1.4x ?
I'm considering moving over to Canon -- Don't like the prices of the gear, but there's no denying it seems top-shelf.
Excellent. I haven't noticed any negatives. I haven't done a lot of BIF with it yet so maybe someone else can pipe in. I had excellent results with that combo and my R for BIF.
I just wrote this and don't want to do it again. Follow the posts after for more details.
I can now join this thread as I bought an R5 last week. These photos are from my 1st outing with it. The combo (R5, 500II and 1.4 EF) worked great together. The weather and my proximity to the birds was a good test for the set-up. Focus tracking remained solid as the snow was falling hard. I couldn't get any closer to these Short-eared owls so they are very heavy crops.
This was also my 1st try using Topaz for noise and sharpening... I have a lot to learn. I like Topaz, however, my 8 year old PC is struggling with the files...I may have found an excuse for a computer upgrade.
Thanks for looking.

SpeedyB, when I look at all the great photos posted here, I tend to just give a 'like'. I felt compelled to add a post to say how awesome your latest photos are. Great subjects, nicely composed and very sharp (without looking oversharpened, at least on my laptop). And the backgrounds (degree of OOF and colours) work very well with the subjects. Bravo!
I'm not sure how, but the missus seems to get more beautiful as time passes Love that cityscape background, very nice. I might have also tried a wider angle to make it more environmental as well because it looks great!

Thanks! I had to stop to 1/30 sec for this shot to see the cityscape background, which is kind of dangerous for portraits:. Wider angle you would have seen ugly things on that balcony that I would not want anyone to see! Thanks for kind words
