Just one from the other day - heat haze and a lack of close up subjects playing a big part in reducing today's returns But this little guy in the shade decided to sit still for me. Of note, ISO12,800!!!!! Not a fan of shooting at that high an ISO, but it is nice to have it available and still grab a decent processable shot.
Busy day with the R5 yesterday, over 2,000 photos between a horse (dressage) clinic and a High School Senior photo session later in the day. I can't say enough about the AF capabilities of this camera in servo mode, whether in "animal" or "people" setting.
I'm still loving this camera. The AF is just amazing. If Canon really does bring out Quadpixel AF in the future, I am sure it will be astounding. Here are a few of my recents, all taken with the EF 600mm f/4L IS II:
Philippine Airlines PR102, B777 from Manila to LAX, today over San Jose
and
American Airlines AA9736 B787 from Shanghai to LAX, yesterday (he was two hours late today...)
Need to get them earlier head-on. I'm running out of things to shoot in my back yard
It's amazing to me what you can get these days with good lenses and sensors even at cruising altitude...

Thank you. The backdrop is the base of the very first mountain on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains called North Table Mtn. We are an arid region and the face of the mesa is mostly dried grasses and small coniferous trees.
Way, way better image quality with the 500mm f/4 lens than anything I've seen shot with the 100-500mm RF lens!
It's not even close!

I should add that I only processed those in LR and exported as jpegs. I got lazy and didn't bother with Topaz or PS for those images. Standard sharpening and a tiny bit of NR in LR only.
I do love my 500 f/4 but in all fairness, primes always seem to have a certain magic to them over zooms. Regardless of focal length or brand, primes almost always render more pleasing images but it comes at a cost. Literally.
With that said, from what I've been seeing so far from the posted images from the RF 100-500, I will likely pick one up someday as it serves a different need than a big prime.
They all have their place in our bags.

Were you expecting the 100-500 to match the 500II?
