one more and then i'll leave this thread for a while. not sure I'd be able to go back to a camera without eye AF at this point and i've only had it for a few weeks.

I was thinking more about switching the AF point to the leading bird, but you have to be super-quick to be able to make that change, so it might not be very practical. Another way maybe is to move/pan the camera from left to right, so the leading bird enters the VF first and the AF will then lock on the first bird.
Bobby, with the R5 what your saying is not hard at all. In the right mode, its actually as simple as moving the joystick right or left before imitating tracking in most cases. I think that may have been on the EOS R as well.

A few shots from a local butterfly/wildlife park here in Phoenix.
Thanks JayLT4! I didn’t know about this place, I was wondering where you could have gotten pictures of butterflies like that here in the summer! Any other secret fishing spots around here?
I was curious how the 400 DO II was working on he R5? I plan on using mine whenever I get my R5. Also wondering if you had a chance to use the 2x extender on the DO.

Black Oystercatcher IF with the 100-400II and 2xTCIII....lets see the 1DXIII do that
Gotta love black oystercatchers. So majestic. Their orange eye ring is so distinctive and when it is in focus so compelling. Bob
Finally got the R5 today and one of the 1st images our little goof ball Oliver going to enjoy this body lens was just the RF 24-105 f4 gong to take awhile to get it tweaked to my liking

All the adapted lenses seem to work super well. I've now used 400DOII/1.4TC, 400DOII/2xTC, 100-400II/1.4TC, 100-400II/2xTC, 600III, 600III/1.4TC. I've never tried an RF lens yet but I don't expect it to be any better. Even with the 100-400II/2xTCIII, the Animal Eye stuff was working as well as it does with the bare 600 prime. IQ is IQ but AF doesn't seem to be affected very much with different lenses or TCs.
I only used the 400DOII/2xTCIII the very first could hours that I tried the camera last week and that was as I was still learning the camera but again it seemed to do just fine. Rob can probably give you a better analysis as he has likely used it a little bit more.

Thanks Geoff. Good to hear.
Now if I could only get my hands on one of these bad boys! 😀
