I've been trying to get some decent shots of one of these little guys for several years myself. I was fortunate to have clicked on one many years ago but like you, I wasn't real happy with the few images that I had gotten. But boy did those early shots put this little one permanently on my radar. I think they are just stunning little birds and easily one of my favorites.
It matches it's owner then. The stupid part not the sharp part.
I was so thankful to get my combo back to the way it was before I made the mistake of installing FW 1.5.
That FW killed my 500II + 2x III combo. Thankfully FW 1.52 brought my baby back.

Good to hear. The more I use 1.5.2 the less satisfied I am. Its "stickiness" isn't any better and in AED, I've had a string of OOF images lately that I can't explain.
Channeling @stanj here a little I went out trying to find an owl. An I finally found this barred owl. The picture was cleaned up with Denoise but I still have a ways to go to get good owl pictures taking in pretty poor light.
