That takes the cake. I thought it was agreed the last thing we needed was a Canon Explorer of Light.

What's wrong with being an EoL? It's not like he would purposely give false information saying there's no blackout when there's a lot of lag. Sure he's sponsored by Canon but he's still a credible source in my mind, much more so than Chelsea.

Multiple sources confirm the lack of blackout. Northrop are the only outlier

OK, we have now moved on to the shipping week and can finally await some testing by people here on FM!

One important thing to check on Thursday for you lucky R5 guys: Does it make a difference whether image preview is turned on or off? And what is the default?

Because EoL’s are sponsored by Canon, they will not speak negatively about a new release - like an independent reviewer might do. You will hear only the positive aspects - which is not a bad thing, but I am sure you would want to know about the negatives as well - so you can decide if the negatives are deal breakers to you.

Agreed. I actually thought the AF performance was mind blowing considering the lens they used was so old and that too with a TC....But, will the slide insertion be any different if one used the latest RF lens? Also, this was one of the very few videos that shows tracking of a subject moving side ways, which is the toughest to track with slide show effect in place.

lighthound wrote:
Already been discussed in another thread. They purposely used an old 20 yr old 500V1 lens with an equally outdated 2X tc. Both of which are not supported to work perfectly on the new RF system.

They have an ax to grind and are showing just how foolish they are for all to see.

That made me nauseous. It's not just the frame rate but also there's no interpolation between frames ( because that would require extra CPU work ) so limbs moving quickly look jerky.

That is what the Smooth setting is for. 120 fps refresh rate. I'm pretty sure they had no idea it had that option was available.

Just so you know, in the comments below the video it was reported they had 120 refresh rate on.
Like tony said was not a fair test for obvious reasons. They also reported same thing was happening with RF 70-200. I might have miss read the comments...

Just a note: Everyone maybe forgetting they are friends with "Gorden Laing" I'm sure they talked things over and more than likely Gordon gave them some tips on what to check for... Remember in their other video about independent testers not getting the cameras to test. Chelsea says let the G dawg ride...

I looked him up. He is in one of the review videos. Well I'm still not very impressed with the Northrups. I've never been. Am I biased? More than likely

He did state it wasn't a fair video right up front... but what the eye see's in most cases the heart feels... I think most of us canon shooters want this to be on par with Sony a9's focus system. So fingers crossed here but might be a tall order...

That is the bar. I don't mind a little blackout which is what I expect we will see. The Fro's human eye video looked pretty good. Pretty much what you would see using a DSLR. There was no side to side panning which is the last key to this.

The A9 II is still on the table. I've sold everything EF except my 100-400 II.

Me too. From the shutters alone but EFV lag is another thing. What is everyone's acceptable limit? A little is OK with me. Whats a little? How long is a piece of string? We are still waiting for the readout speed and it seems the experts here will be able to judge what that will be like once they are out.

I can report that there is no blackout, but there is a slight lag.

Thanks!

So a stutter in mechanic and none in electronic shutter, where the R5 seems to be the same as the a9
