Not sure it mechanical or electronic. Minute 3:21

It’s electronic shutter. Notice the white border flashing
That looks excellent! Hot damn!
And because they used a Jim Carrey look-a-like in some of the promo material, I thought this would be fitting to express my feelings of this wonderful news.

I don't have sound right now but what am I seeing at 3:30? Looks like it's in video mode and then stills are being captured or something?

That was one of the best reviews I have seen. I've watched way too many where portrait photogs are using it in bright light at ISO 100. Yeah, my phone takes awesome photos in sunlight too. I wanted to see the AF tracking and how well the IBIS worked and this video showed it pretty well, and in fact it looked like the camera performed better than the DJI system. The colors that came out of the new cameras also looked way better than what was shown from the 5D4.
Now to see if anyone will post up some high ISO shots, though a few youtubers have replied to me saying the R6 is similar to the 1DxIII, which is crazy awesome. I preordered already, though I want to see some high ISO files from the R5 and perhaps I'll pick that one up instead.

Zenon, I am referring to the yesterday night webinar. It was interesting by the way.
"Event starts in 1 hour! Join us at 8PM EST for the Canon Creator Lab Live Creator Showcase. Learn more about the new EOS R5 and EOS R6 with our creator panel. Each creator had the opportunity to put the EOS R5 and EOS R6 to the test. They’ll be sharing their experiences using the gear and answering your questions. Tune in to see what they were able to create!
Today’s event will be hosted using Zoom Webinar and we've included the direct link below so you have it handy to join at 5PM PST / 8PM EST:

I'm guessing the R5 oversampled to 20MP will have similar noise performance while producing sharper looking images at the pixel level.
As far as I can tell the blackout, frame-insertion or whatever the camera is doing looks identical to what it does on the 1DXIII in LV. In e-shutter there appears to be no blackout...but I'm fairly certain it is still frame insertion...I've yet to see anyone show a good demo of panning along with a BIF firing away in e-shutter.
A dissapointing thing I learned today...which may actually be my ultimate deal breaker with this camera is the e-shutter is fixed at 20FPS...there is no way to lower that. I sort of inferred this from one of the detailed Canon R5 Spec sheet PDFs. I confirmed with some of the 1DXIII guys that this is how the 1DXIII is in LV.
The reason that is an issue for me is that even if the R5 can't shoot the fastest action in e-shutter, I still would intend to use it in e-shutter for every possible scenario that won't cause distortion (this is how I shoot my A7RIV and Z50). But knowing what a headache culling 20FPS outings are on the A9, I only ever go to 20FPS when I really need it. If I was stuck in 20FPS every time I wanted e-shutter (which would be all the time possible) that is a big negative to me. I hope Canon can FW update that to let us have options for lower FPS in e-shutter. To think I actually criticized Sony for only having set 1, 5, 10, 20 values (where as Canon/Nikon had unlimited choices in DSLRs for FPS)...but this Canon e-shutter fixed 20FPS is a joke.
I actually wonder if by forcing e-shutter into 20FPS it allows them to do such fast frame insertion that it creates the blackout free viewing but you are still seeing a very slight delayed image (ie last frame shot). But at 20FPS it isn't that noticeable
Blackout is a issue on my R even when doing single shots with review off. Its hard to keep the viewfinder on moving subjects. I would not want to be stuck with only 20 FPS.
All of the pros and cons will become clearer in the next several weeks.
That has nothing to do with it. I could keep the shutter half pressed or use the BBF on any DLSR I owned and blackout (or slide show effect) was not there. If so, not enough to notice. It is quite evident with the R.

Again, on my M6II and 90d(in mirrorless mode) ZERO blackout as long as I keep the shutter button half pressed. Not that hard really.
I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing? With shutter half-pressed you aren't taking shots. I'm talking about when actively shooting. But if what you mean is that as long as you take shots and then just release to half way (and not all the way off the shutter) then you don't see blackout then yeah that is how the 1DXIII is and I believe how the R5/R6 are. BUT it is frame insertion...you are seeing the past, not the present (nor future ). EVFs are always somewhat showing the past even when you aren't firing away because there is always some small lag to get the signal processed and into the EVF. This is why a common criticism of EVFs is they are difficult to react to say a bird launching from a perch...you may think you reacted in time but the inherent EVF delay made you miss.
But with frame insertion you are delaying even more than the EVF signal processing delay. To my knowledge only the A9 is showing an actual live feed while shooting without blackout. Cameras in mechanical mode show a live feed while shooting at certain FPS (ie the A7RIV shows a live feed up to H but not H+) but you of course see the natural shutter blackout.
When you are trying to track a swallow, darting and changing direction at random, any type of frame insertion while actively firing will severely hamper your results. It can still be done, I shoot swallows with the A7RIV and at H+ (10FPS) which has mechanical shutter blackout and frame insertion. But the success is many times lower than the A9 in e-shutter.
Anyone interested in how the R5/R6 will look in e-shutter at 20FPS can watch the Fro video where he recorded the direct feed via the Atmos while shooting basketball here:

FWIW, I think whatever they are doing looks pretty darn good and probably fine to track moving subjects with. But I'd have to try it out myself to see. Regardless, being stuck at 20FPS is a big negative for me.
Its amazing that a camera created 4 years ago is still the camera to beat.

Is silent mode using the E shutter or it is a totally different mechanism? If yes, then it should be able to do less than 20fps.
