Fortunately, I don't need any equipment that I don't already have. While I'm hopeful that those camera production facilities and shipping companies will be back up and running before too long — and while I'm encouraged by new camera developments — I can still do what I need to do with the equipment I have.

Here i Norway we have a lockdown situation from today. It has all happened very fast this week. I recommend you to start your project immediately to get some context of how it was just before everything changed.
Like you I will focus on photographic opportunities nearby, but that is not really much difficult from what it used to be.
I have great concerns for event and sports photographers these days. The times ahead will be very troublesome.
I have never thought of this before but maybe I'll buy a few cans of Ravioli and some crackers. That will remind me of camping with the guys when I was 18. The coolers were full of beer. The first time I went camping with my wife I opened the cooler and there was green stuff in there. It was not an easy adjustment.

If the food supply gets disrupted, I'll hopefully have a few meals etc in 2-4 months. If not, free, fresh squash & melons kind of a win-win. Plus it's fun to photograph the sprouting seeds, plants, maybe blossoms, bugs and pollinators on them. Might post some to the seasonal threads if I get around to it.
F1 just cancelled the opening race of the season in Australia after one team withdrew due to a positive case of a crew member tested in the paddock at the race. And on it goes...
What can be learned from this situation going out of hand (also a shut down happening in my country), is that people should keep a distance to wild animals, photograph them, enjoy the way they behave and look, learn from them, but for heavens sake, stop toying with them, stop eating them, stop selling their parts in public market places or recycle their body parts into potency potions or whatever.
Learn respect for the animal realm of the wild, or worse is to come in the future.

Let's not forget the swine flu originates in our domesticated ham & bacon, so it's not only wild animals we need to worry about.

Doubt it. You would need 6 months of economic decline to be a recession. Already in China they are claiming that they are seeing only a handful of new cases per day. Once you get people to stop rubbing all up on each other at the grocery store things will die down quickly. The travel bans which have been enacted will also help slow things and hey, people still need to buy stuff.
At this point I think companies like Canon are just holding off on announcements and launches because nobody is buying their stuff if they are spending all their time looking for toilet paper.

Thanks! Looks like my schedule will be clear for the next few months with zero positive cashflow due to all the highly probable event cancellations. Probably a good thing I didn't buy the 1DXIII in the first round, which at least leaves me some money in the bank to stretch out until things pick up again. Certainly other things to keep busy with now, photographically and otherwise.

If things 'go back to normal' in a place where Covid swept through, what stops it from returning to hit those it didn't get the first time, causing a new spike in cases? It would seem preventative measures would need to remain in place until at least a vaccine is available, which by some accounts will be 12-18 months.
Yeah, people still need to buy food and other essentials. But what about all the other things that are interconnected in the economy? If no one travels, airlines, hotels, resorts, amusement parks, museums, art galleries, restaurants, boutiques, etc... they all suffer. Staff are laid off, they won't make discretionary purchases, which trickles down. And that's just a narrow segment of the overall market.

They're probably holding off because like everyone else, there's so much uncertainty right now, there's no point in even guessing when something will be possible. If their suppliers aren't delivering the components they need to make cameras, they don't seem to have much choice but to delay new releases.
