Didn't say they were having fun, lol.
When are we actually going to see the specifications for the entire camera? And its price?
That's the questions we're all not so patiently waiting for. Last I heard both (R5 & R6) are suppose to be announced this month, but the rumor mill has been all over the damn place with both the R5 as well as the mystical R6.
And don't even get me started on the lack of ANYTHING official regarding this mysterious R6.
It sure would be nice to see something official on the R6 so I can figure out how many nights I'm going to have to sleep on the couch.
I'm estimating the R5 will put me there for about 2 months where as the mystical R6 might only result in 1 month.
So both my back and my wallet would like to know what the pain level is going to be.

Canon has made a mess of the release. What point is there in caring anymore?
Canon has been stoking the rumor mill since early February and there's not even a complete set of specifications announced officially. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I stopped caring about this long ago.
The 5DSR was released in 2015, they have since stopped manufacturing it, and there's not even a replacement with higher resolution on the horizon. Some day rumors will start (again) about that, and then it'll only be another six months or a year, maybe. This might be OK if you're 25 years old (I'm not), but these lengthy design cycles are like a flashback to the 1980s.
A mess? What about corona making a big mess of the world?
Just about everything this year has been cancelled, delayed, etc. Under normal circumstances the announcement would've been just before Photokina. Now we wait a few more weeks. Big deal.
My notification from CPW yesterday said the R5 announcement will be delayed now until July at least. Apparently they had some news that it would be announced in June.
Latest rumors state the first few days in July for R5 and R6 with limited availability at the end of the month. Those are the most definitive dates I've heard to date. This smells like the delays I experienced waiting for the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM ..... not looking forward to that

Maybe it's overheating during video? Seems like a tough order to fit 8K in a camera that size.

As much as I follow the rumors, I am also just waiting for Canon to release the R5—I've already sold off my Sony A9.
As I see it, both Sony and Canon are poised to release the next generation of hybrid cameras. I'm sure the specifications of these systems has long been solidified—price-point remains pliable depending on competition. How would it look if both these systems were comparable in terms of features, but had a significant price difference? Price-point has mostly been guided by cost and what the market can bear.

That is interesting. I sold my 5D4 and got the R last fall. I could have purchased a Sony and I'm still thinking about it if the R5 doesn't pan out for my needs. I think it will. I might be interested in the R6 but I don't trust Canon will put the same level of AF as the R5.

If Canon decides to put the 1dx III's capabilities into the R5, whats left for the 1dx mirrorless version?

That question has come up before. I'm not expecting 1DX III but maybe II? Even so Canon has to knock this one out of the ball park so I'm excepting much better than my R, which is a given. As history shows (unlike Nikon or others) Canon does not put it's best AF into lower models.
Maybe I'll hit those Red-winged Blackbirds. I certainly tried the other day with my R. Doesn't respond fast enough. Which is another reason I'm more than likely going all RF. Faster transmission speeds might give a little edge.
The R has a High Speed Display to reduce blackout but it only works on RF lenses. We will see how the R5 is and how it handles EF lenses. I may wait for a while before possibly getting the 100-500 to see what else Canon will release.
I believe AF can no longer be a differentiating factor—Sony A73 is the minimal Canon will need to stay competitive. Zenon Char wrote:

Good question, what will be left with either 1dx2 or 1dx3 at this point because if the R5 AF is near the old 1dx abilities that would be sufficient for most sports. Aside from extreme cold need with a 1d bodies, I say 95% of time weather sealing isn't needed and even then there are cheap solutions to adapt with wet.
