Very possible around $3-3500 since the A7rIV is at $3,498.00

I agree. The key to sustained high speed shooting is now the use of CFE cards and not buffer size. Files of 70 MB can be written to a CFE card at a rate of 20 files per second.

Of course "everyone" will bitch and moan bout every so little Shortcoming of a new Camera, not only the upcoming R5. We're on the Internet, where People bitch and moan about everything except their own Failure when it comes to Photography itself

Oh, I hope it is more than that, around $3500 MSRP.
Canon needs to make better and more expensive cameras.
The cheapitude of the R really turns me off.

EOS R a home run? No, but it was a decent first generation attempt.

A home run would be an EOS-R5 that performs like a sports body with 12fps AI servo @ 40MP and better IQ than 5DIV, but pricing would be right to label it a home run.

The EOS R was a home run, a year after it was introduced and finally got a firmware update for the eye AF. Then when it went to around $1,300 before Christmas? Yeah, it became a home run. It's a fantastic camera, especially for those who bought it cheap.

I think it will be 3-3500. I said that on Facebook and some dude was laughing at me. He claims that it will cost 10k euros because of an article posted last month. They would have a hard time moving units at 10k euros

I said 3-3500 for the same reason you did because of the competition

If Canon cared about the competition they wouldn't be selling a new DSLR for $2k more than an A9II.

No way the camera costs under $3,500 and will likely be $4k or more, IMHO.

I expect it will do what Canon says it will do. I don't put any stock in any blogger or vlogger extrapolations beyond what Canon has precisely said.

What about the 200 f1.8 with AF
What about IS in a 500 f4?
What about the 5D mkl and mkll?
What about the 200-400 with a built-in extender?
Canon has a long history of Home Runs!!!

Yes, John. I have been and I would add some more to the list:
Eos 5 (non D) and EOS 3 EYE AF (not focusing the models eye but focusing what I watched in the viewfinder
6D was (and imo still is after 8 years) one of the most excellent low-light performers.
The whole 1 series till today
5D IV!
100 2.8L
70-200s doesnt matter which one or what speed (2.8/4.0)

Most of them where landmarks that had to be copied by the competitors. In many cases years after Canon did them. That is the Canon history in my mind.

I agree with Mike. It will be priced higher than the competition because that is what Canon always seems to do. And it's probable the R5 will experience very strong demand for a considerable period. I don't think Canon's aim is to undercut the competition on price. Rather, imply a premium value over the competition. In this case they'll also leverage demand from Canon users who have held off switching systems until now, who will grumble at the higher price, but wish to remain in the Canon ecosystem and the benefits it entails.

The camera might cost more by ~$500 but in the grand scheme of things, could save existing Canon users money compared to switching systems and having to re-buy a whole set of lenses. While EF lenses will work on Sony FE, there are compromises. Meanwhile EF lenses work pretty much natively on RF, meaning the transition can be spread considerably longer, lessening the cost/pain and giving time for users to integrate RF lenses as needed and funds allow.

FPS, high resolution, DR, 8K, 4K/120, buffer size, 2 catrd slots, more battery power, RF-mount, world class AF ... - nice to get all those unneeded (for me) gimmicks. But did anybody here (except me of course ) realize that Canon did a big jump into the future of usability by bringing back the wellknown and in decades developed ergonomics in design. This for me is the most important and real innovation. Right in opposite to the common phrase that Canon is not listening ... with firmware updates to eye AF and the neenvented ergonomics of joystick and scroll wheel and skipping the touchbar they imho show that they ARE listening. They do the same with FPS/4 & 8K and bringing a new sensor. I do not expect that it might be worse than the previous ones. For my needs the DR of Canon sensors was already good enough 14 years ago when I purchased a 30D.

I am pretty sure concerning my needs this R5 will blow away everything else, what competitors offer right now.

But I am pretty sure That I will not be able to afford it, too. But who cares? I do not really want to handle more than 20 - 24 MP anyway.

Based on Canon's history? I say yes, it will certainly "knock our socks off".
And also based on Canon's stated intentions in FF mirrorless market.

Go Tokura (Canon's Image Communication Business Operations Chief Executive) stated during an interview last year at the 2019 CP+ show in Yokohama, Japan.

"As you may know, Canon has a history of not always being first in the market with new technology, but we are very good at catching up, going beyond and becoming the leader."

Exciting times!

Tokura needs to shoot that 100-500L in low light and see how Canon is the leader in blur and noisy images.

I wasn't aware that there were any RAW files out there shot with this lens. Do you have any you could share that proves your claim?

Well that's great news I'm hoping so. I'll buy one if it's not the typical cripple. And to me a typical cripple would be a 5DIV with same fps, more cropping power and nearly the same IQ quality. If this is the case, it's not going to result in better images, but just bigger files. The other bells and whistles that aren't associated with capturing images don't excite me.

But if this thing actually performs at 12fps in AI servo like a sports body and has 40+MP with equivalent or better than 5DIV IQ then they'll have my money as long as it's not priced too high.

There is nothing happening in this area, it hasn't for many years, and it will not in many years. If you compare the general image quality of all FF camera from the major manufacturers from the recent years, there is so little between them that it is not worth a thought. The factor that differentiates most is resolution. What kind of improved image quality do you expect? General ISO noise is settled near the theoretical minimum for Bayer sensor cameras. Dynamic range? Maybe a tiny bit better than the 5D IV but that's it.

The R5 is all about the combination of resolution and speed. If you need none of them, it will still be a great camera, but money might be better spent on something else.

Well, one thing that Canon has already succeeded at with this camera is generating buzz. I can't remember the last time there was this much anticipation over a Canon body.

I'm actually checking in on these discussions a few times a day, which is pretty unusual for me.
