No, there is no CPS pricing for it. I have an e-mail from Canon Canada that states this. Looks like Canon Canada is getting rid of the CPS pricing program.

That does seem to be the official word from Canon and almost all the retailers. But I'd PM WarrenL if you are seriously considering the lens and contact his contact. Unless that retailer has made a mistake, you won't be disappointed.

I am thinking that this will likely end up being regarded as the pinnacle of DSLRs before the final push to an all MILC lineup from canon. That said, this appears to be an incredible impressive camera for the crowd it is designed for. It is also interesting that it is essentially a hybrid between old school optical focusing and newer on sensor focusing.

I look forward to hearing more about it and I suspect we will be seeing quite a few of these at the Olympics.

I’m thinking Nikon is also thinking the same thing about their upcoming D6 and I’m thinking they might be both right. Miss my 1DX, but I’m waiting for their mirrorless EOS 1Rx.

That's a bonus.

Actually claimed to be way over the double the shots ~ 1200 -> 2800, very impressive improvement. Finally 1DX series with better battery life than 1DIII and 1DIV.

I know the resolution is a bummer, but if this thing can deliver on the promises especially AF and noise it will be hard to resist. I said I’d never get the 1DX due to the low pixel count, but ultimately caved and hardly ever used my 1DIV again despite the lesser reach. If it can compete against the A9II and D5/D6 and eliminate the prior weaknesses with Canon AF maybe just maybe. I just wish they had a new lightweight 500 f/4 mk III but I suspect that will only appear in RF mount now.

I am actually liking the specs of this new 1DX III, I think this will be a winner. Time will tell. I like the extra MPs of the R but actually the 1dx Mark II and the R size very well to each other. I will take the speed and the better Af over MP's any day. I can always use the R for the extra MP if needed. I think the AF button will be awesome to use. Video side of things is very good at least to me. Really looking forward putting the 400 f2.8 MK III on this puppy. Hopefully Canon delivers on time and I can try this in a few weeks . I actually just sold my last 1dx II today, I only have the R now.

I had a quick look at the camera today but didn't take home any images, so can't really comment much on that aspect of the camera, other than what I saw on the rear display.

First of all, the AF point toggle thumb button thingie is BRILLIANT. Finally there's a way to BBF and move the focus point around easily, but not accidentally. I also tried it with black gloves and it worked just as well.

It sounded a bit different. More muffled, though obviously you still hear the shutter/mirror slap. I'd estimate silent mode was slightly better than the II. Like every new model, it felt faster than the previous ones. AF, fps, response, etc.

Live view AF was good at sticking to a subject as it moved around the frame, even at 20fps with the mechanical shutter. There was barely any stutter while shooting and a very slightly longer delay once you lifted off the shutter release before live view was fluid again. Much better than previous 1DX cameras in this regard. Again, it would have been so sweet to have a hybrid OVF/EVF to be able to shoot live view through the viewfinder. One of those rear display magnifier hoods might be an option but certainly not ideal.

I shot a bit through the OVF with my 85/1.4L IS wide open at max fps and it consistently nailed focus on stationary subjects in AI Servo. It's reassuring that the AF is not jumping around between frames thinking there should be something moving when it's not, which in the past sometimes resulted in focus flutter/drift, based on my experience with previous cameras (though the II was pretty good too). This based on zoomed in image review on the camera, both at near (1m), medium (3m) and farther subject distances (8-10m). This was without any MFA, whereas this lens will back focus on my 1DXII without MFA. It'll really be a matter of trying the camera on a few shoots to get a better feel for how it will handle a range of situations. For the time being the impression is it's really fast/responsive without any initial indications of AF reliability concerns.

My Canon Canada contact said no CPS price. Whereas the CPS discount was no-haggle and preset by Canon Canada, it's now up to each photographer to negotiate something better. FWIW, when I worked in photo retail some time ago, the CPS price was normal dealer cost (there were also 'pro' dealers who got a slightly better price for maintaining a certain level of inventory). For each CPS sale, the dealer was given a percentage refund off dealer cost. IIRC, it was 10%. I don't know if this is how CPS pricing currently works. Anyway, there's pretty much zero chance a dealer will sell the camera at cost. Now, instead of that profit margin being reimbursed to the retailer by Canon, it's coming from the consumer (like a normal purchase). I guess the freebie package is to make up for this. At it's regular retail price, it's more than what the CPS discount likely would have been. That said, I'd still likely be buying 4x128s if I got the camera, which will add another $600-800 USD.

As for the 512GB card, its inclusion (in the Canadian preorder package) was due to logistical considerations that didn't allow for smaller capacities. I did explain I'd rather they included 4x128s, but it is what it is...

What is it in Australia? Over $10K?

Well the Nikon D5 RRP is about $8.8K. I expect this will launch with some stupidly high $10K RRP and then ease back to around $9K. I recall when the 1DsII IIRC was around $14K RRP!

Price will probably kill it for me since I got lucky with the 1DX as I working for Canon at the time and got a 50% staff discount and our dollar was very strong so RRP was around $7.7K. Just shows you how much profit margin are in the 1 series, it's pretty crazy to think they could sell them for $4KUS and turn a profit. Already the A9II has gotten some discounts of $600-700 here but that just brings it down to A9 launch price in the $6.5K range. I'll bet by end of year A9II will get some much bigger discounts especially if 1DXIII and D6 are hits.

This is a pretty nice users hands-on video by Gordon Laing testing AF with race as well. The AI enahnced AF does well for auto-AF.

Thanks Geoff!

Regarding the 1DXIII price point: I agree it's crazy high and sets a new precedence for a 'non-S' 1D series camera that started to tick upwards with the 1DX. Perhaps it reflects the increasingly niche market the camera addresses. But yes, I do imagine there is a very healthy profit for Canon.

The high price point does leave a lot of space to fill with other 'mid-range' models. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the 1DXIII's tech trickle down to those cameras.

The premium for buying the 1dx3 is about video features, looks basically like a mini C500 II. I have to believe if they replace the 5ds/r with a mirrorless it's going to be $5k because of video features. Then you have the expensive RF lens. Feels like there just following Apple's lead on pricing premium products, people willing to pay more due to perceived higher value and loyalty.

Same with the US. Not sure about other markets.

I think the inclusion of a 512GB card is a little crazy from Canon Canada. It must have some relation to the inclusion of the same card with the C500II but that is in the US and Canada (not sure about other countries) and yet the US only has the 64GB card included for the 1DXIII. Still I have a feeling it stems from that previous deal with Sandisk for 512GB cards. As I understand it Canon and Sandisk were the brainchild behind the C-Fast card (which now has gone the way of the dodo) so they must have a close business relationship. Maybe orders of the C500II in Canada were on the low side and they have a surplus of 512GB cards from the prior arrangement at a good price from Sandisk. With the higher price of 1DXIII in Canada, including an $800CDN card acts as a good incentive.

Still, unless one is doing video, a smaller card or multiple smaller cards would have been much more useful especially if one is planning to shoot duplicate to two cards.

The higher price in Canada corresponds more with what they charge in Europe. I still think it's too much of an increase in price compared to the pre-order price of the 1dxII. Even when taken inflation into account. My guess is that they expect to sell fewer 1dxIIIs compared to II's (because they seem to get the job done still) and this is their way to cover their expenses. I also wonder what will happen to the retail price of the III after a while. Everyone knows this camera will be the last of it's kind, and R&D is moving towards ML and RF mount. (when we get real time no blackout evf, ovf fanatics will embrace it). I hoped that we would get a hybrid eyepiece to choose between ovf/evf.

I'm going to test the III soon nevertheless, and it should tick every box (and more) to even make me consider buying one at this price.

I saw one guy share a video specifically telling people why not to equate the !DX iii and C500 II.

As for the 5DSR, I'd wager like a 1% or 2% chance of a mirrorless counterpart costing $5000 ... I'd suspect more in the $3200 to $3800 range.
