Come on now, I see that camera track the Caracara to the edge of the frame without issue...where is my R1 Canon? Where?
We don't have to convince Canon, Geoff we have to convince the masses like sports photographers, journalist and corporations that don't want to spend money on change.
I will preface that report with some history...that user tvstaff had to buy 5 copies of the 1DXII in order to find two he was finally happy with. He seems to always find odd problems with gear that no one else reports??

I read through that. I though I would try and replicate the issue with the 600ex, but I don't quite follow what the issue is. Something with white balance and FEC?
I haven't taken enough photos to come up with am image quality opinion, however I did harass my dog inside yesterday in dim lighting. I looked at one photo ISO 32000 and it is noisy, however it is usable. I was reasonably impressed. I should have some photos by this weekend if the animals cooperate.

A real knee slapper. PhotonsToPhotos does actual objective measurements and finds the 1DX III and II have the same noise performance across the ISO range.
5 page thread on dpreview with not a single comparison photo posted.
Conclusion: guy goes out and over-scrutinizes every detail of the camera with absolutely no comparison point since he isn’t shooting the 1DX II at the same shoot.
I don’t know why I care. I am not even considering buying the camera.

I don't know why I care either, but I had to check what this was about. His writing is just insane and inconsistent all over. Scary that people take his word as gospel regarding cameras. He might still be a great photographer though.

4 years ago he must have had pages and pages and multiple threads about the 1DXII and all his bad experiences with it. But then supposedly settled on two "good" copies and just loved them up until the 1DXIII came out. Now it reads like deja vu from 4 years ago just with different issues.
I almost think he is a professional troll....I really don't understand it as nothing he finds is ever found by others
The Sony writing to the cards is the saddest part in that video....
The other sad part is the poor ergonomics (ie strapping on some Hoodman loupe) required to even use the amazing tracking system Canon has come up with....
For the 1DXIII users out there, when in e-shutter/silent....is there an indication that it is taking a shot? Fake sound or a box flashing??
Camera is absolutely silent. I accidentely took 362 images of my house before I realized I was taking pictures!! There is a thin white line at edge of frame that blinks and you can see the shot numbers in LUC going down.

As I have said earlier, the LV tracking in the 1DX III is the beta testing for the R1. The 1DX III is meant for those who want a DSLR. But what a beta testing they got. People see the potential and get optimistic, and Canon gets feeedback from a wider group than inside beta testers.

Thanks Gail.
They need to improve that then for the R5 if it can read the sensor fast enough to make using e-shutter feasible in the first place. Easy enough to do.
A9II offers 5 different indicator options and the option to turn on a fake shutter sound. Most people I know have to have the fake sound on to still be comfortable with the camera. I on the other hand don't use the fake sound but have found Option #2 for flashing a blue outline over whatever focus point you are using to be excellent.

When using silent mode you can tell by the focus square, it dims a little. You can tell by the feel also, hard to explain that. As far as the Hoodman yes not the best but much better then trying to hold a large lens away from your face. I used the OVF yesterday the most extensive since owning the camera and just wow. I used full auto mode with me picking the AF point and it is so good. The main difference I see is the larger focus area but as far as tracking they are neck and neck. I got the most coming strait at me shots in focus then I ever did with the 1dx Mark II, this area it did struggle in. Big improvements across the boards in my opinion.
Edit : When taking photos in full silent the outside AF area of the entire frame flashes white also

And I applaud them for doing so unlike that other DSLR company...cough, cough, Nikon....
Bring on the R5 or better yet R1X......I need a flip screen....

Canon appears to be set to amaze quite a few, while Nikon's path is yet unclear.
Nikon still has the IQ advantage, and not by a short measure i.m.o. I now use the D500 next to the 7DII, and the difference is really substantial. Not that you can't shoot beautiful wildlife images with Canon, but Nikon's raw images are simply on a different level. And that still goes for the FF bodies 5DIV/5DSr vs D850 as well. But if Canon closes in on the IQ with the R5 (while Nikon stays behind with mirrorless AF and processor power) ánd also throws out a superb RF lens line (RF 500DO with the quality level of the 400DOII?).............
