You may want to find a better influencer to review a product next time.
Typo aside, this guy reviewed almost nothing about this lens.
Basically he firstly educated us the history of the lens of this from Leitz, then he quoted bunch of sayings from Zhou and copied/pasted some erroneous MTF charts, finally he threw in a bunch of mediocre pictures before concluding he likes the lens.
It sounds harsh but this kind of review is typically what I call those "seems saying a lot but actually saying nothing" type of platitudes.
Totally agree. I read the "review" twice and still am not sure about what's special about this lens. It gave me pretty much no reason for me to want to buy (or even try) it. I'm sure there's more to the lens than what's said in this review (at least I hope so). I'm a fan of the LLL 8e and 50f1.2 so I'm really interested in this and the hopefully-soon 35AA.

The paint on the '1966' appears more durable than the paint on the 'Elcan' or 8E. My lens shows less pronounced wearing than the other two. That being said, I use the hood less - not because it wouldn't benefit from it, but because it's too large (and I can't use a variable nd with it).
Thanks @_jim_ for all those insights, the lens has a glow to it as I believe to see, does it still have it beyond 1.2? Does the other character traits remains to 1.4 and 2?

Did they just post a 35mm APO on their IG story?! 😱
I saw that too but seems like an odd choice if so. Firstly, their whole ethos has been reviving older optical formulas. Secondly, given how notoriously difficult it is for even Leica to produce the 35 APO, there’s zero chance LLL is going to be able to do it at that level.
Looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. It’s one thing to replicate a lens that is beyond copyright date, but to copy a current one? Even if they change the optical formula, the external design and hood look too similar.

It will be in production later this year, however we had another priority in terms of 35mm focal length development hence the reason I did not promote the lens until it is set and stone... The said "new" lens announcement will be posted soon however! Excited to hear what you guys think!

I guess this is what David was talking about in previous posts.
You can patent a lens formula, but you probably can’t protect a lens barrel design. This might be LLL’s first optical formula from scratch (as much as a lens can be, anyway).

Patent plus copyright, one of those is going to apply to the physical design. You can’t mass produce and sell a Star Wars spaceship toy just because you made it out of a different material. Such a toy product wouldn’t be considered a replica, it would be considered a counterfeit. Even if they change the name of the spaceship and don’t market it as a Star Wars product, the manufacturer could still be subject to a lawsuit if the external design was the same as the official ship from one of their movies, shows, graphic novels, etc.
Star Wars ships aren’t a great comparison in this case as they fall under copyright. Something else that is clearly designed but generally isn’t covered by copyright is typefaces. I think that’s a more relevant comparison.

We'll see. Leica either doesn't care anyway – or they've been waiting for a chance to unleash hell
