Are the 35mm frame lines visible when using the magnifier or only the 50mm? If 50mm are the widest that can be seen, then would the entire frame outside the 50mm frame lines represent ~40mm?
I'm able to see the 35mm lines, but I need to move my eye around, just like I do with the 28mm lines when not using the magnifier.
I do remember exactly what Fred describes above when I was using the Leica 1.4x magnifier on my M240. I remember thinking, at that time, that this very fact negates the "seeing what's coming into my frame" advantage that so many vouch about.
On the other hand, I don't remember any improvement with my focusing when using this magnifier for my 35mm and 50mm lenses, nevertheless it has helped me focusing my LLL SP2 at f/2 since the image was so "glowy" wide open...

Maybe I'm missing something, but you will not see that "glowy" when focusing using an M camera as you are not viewing the image through the lens, but with the separate finder.

Ha, ha, you're absolutely right. I was thinking at my focusing experience using the LLL SP2 on my A7c, as it was very difficult to nail the focus without the magnified view help when the lens was set at f/2.
As for the 1.4x magnifier, don't remember any real advantage when focusing my Leica M240.
I just received a SP II 50mm f2 and a 35mm f2 8-element from popflash. Excited to go shooting with both of these, but have to say I'm already very impressed with the build quality and nice (even premium?) packaging it all came in.

The LLL version comes with a rubber attachment, actually two - one is an extra. This addition makes it slightly larger, but it adds a lot of comfort. It also includes an adapter ring so it can be used with all Leica viewfinders.
I've had this 1.4x magnifier, while clear and it works, I absolutely hate the fact that the magnifier itself spins around throwing it out of focus. If you are carrying your camera around, when you bring it back to your eye you have to turn it every time to focus correctly (diopter style). I ended up putting a piece of black tape to hold the ring in place. Just FYI

Perhaps LLL may have fixed this. Although rotating is the way to adjust the diopter, my copy is stiff to turn, so it does not rotate on its own unless applying considerable force when setting the diopter for the first time.

Fred, that sounds like a fix to me. My copy rotates too freely, I may need to upgrade. :-) Thanks for the update.
The images in that review were quite disappointing to be honest. He kept mentioning they were quick snaps taken around the place, but why? He was sent the lens to review, and could not be bothered to take more time?
Not brown nosing here, but you would have done a much better job. Also his samples were very small.
The performance appears much better than what Macfilos posted. I'm not aware of any Leica f/1.3 lenses, and unless a negative MTF is possible, the graphs in the Macfilos review would seem to be fake.
Hi just wanted to follow up on the LLL 1.4 magnifier- I just received mine and the diopter really does rotate easily if it rubs against a jacket. Im just going to super glue it so it stops moving. Its super bright and works amazing with my 90mm lens

Interesting. Mine has a lot of resistance, so there is variation there...
Instead of super glue, I would suggest a drop of blue loctite.
