I don’t think I have the will power to go through all these pages. But so far it seems it’s a crap shoot as to whether I’ll get a good copy of the LLL 35 8E. I was somewhat interested but after reading a few pages I don’t think I’ll buy it. At the prices now I’ll get a Cron ASPH.
But hopefully it’s good news and these cases are rare. Doesn’t seem like it though.
I have the LLL 35/2 8E, the Elcan, and the SPII. All bought from Tony at PopFlash. All lenses are perfectly built; the quality is as good as my Luxes and Crons. Each of the lenses are perfectly centered no issues with any of them whatsoever. If you do have any issues with any lens you buy from PopFlash they will replace it - their customer service is second to none - I've experienced it first hand (not with the LLL) and I can attest to how great they treat you when an issue arises.

Good luck with your decision.
I don’t live in the US. I would have to order it from LLL directly. If it comes defective, what do I do? Has anyone here dealt directly with LLL about returning a defective lens? And what happened?
Or does everyone in the world deal with Popflash? I don’t know what Popflash is.
Oh wait. Now I see. They charge me an arm and a leg to ship it to me. Probably will have to pay import fees on top of that. So yea. I would order it from LLL.
The one I want is sold out and costs about $1,700. That’s a lot to pay for a China replica if it isn’t absolutely perfect.
I've ordered the new version of Light Lens Lab 1.4x Viewfinder Magnifier today. What sets it apart from the Leica version is that it includes a diopter adjustment ranging from -3 to +3 and it's made from brass. I'm eager to test it with my 75mm, 90mm, and 135mm lenses.
I absolutely love the LLL viewfinder Magnifier. It has changed my M use immeasurably for the better. Maybe it is my eyesight but now I can look with both eyes open and when the viewfinder patch is aligned in focus, the patch just pops. Again it is probably my eyes with the left eye dominant but I can now see so much more confidently when the patch is in focus alignment with both eyes open. The first one I bought, the diopter rotated too easily and I had to align the diopter each time I used it but this was fixed with a little tape. The second one I bought --the diopter does not turn so readily and is perfect. Good choice
I was just curious because it’s quite difficult to find much samples of the Elcan, does it flare?(Not that I would mind at the contrary)
The Panchro flares but more in a veil kind of way or a blue cast, no colored arc whatsoever.
What about the Elcan?
And what about the LLL 35mm while I’m inquiring about those things?

I recently received the LLL 1.4x viewfinder magnifier, and I must say, it's quite cool. It shifts the framelines by roughly one focal length. So, your 135mm lens now matches the 90mm position, the 90mm shifts to the 50mm, and the 50mm aligns with the 35mm. This means you can use 35mm focal length lenses and have the whole viewfinder for framing. (sort of like a 28mm does without it).
I first adjusted the diopter at a distance of 2 meters, which is a significant advantage compared to the Leica model. Then, I tested the accuracy using my 75mm, 90mm, and 135mm lenses outside. The magnifier's larger patch, which is 1.4 times bigger, allows me to capture way more keepers.. It also helps me see textures more clearly on the patch, making focusing much easier -- almost foolproof. However, using the 135mm lens is still a bit tricky because it aligns with the 90mm framelines. Despite that, I'm getting much more accuracy with these lenses them before, especially the very long FLs.
The build is solid, made from brass, and it's not too bulky. I personally don't use the rubber gasket on it. Highly recommended, especially for the price. I bought mine from Ebay.

Does anyone have a final price say for the black in brass? Thanks.
Any comparisons with the Leica 50 1.2 reissue available?

Nice review! I have the original Leica 1.4 magnifier but never use it as it is so rare for me to shoot anything longer than a 50. I also don’t like the way it pokes you in the eye!

The LLL version comes with a rubber attachment, actually two - one is an extra. This addition makes it slightly larger, but it adds a lot of comfort. It also includes an adapter ring so it can be used with all Leica viewfinders.

So basically Leica sells a vf adapter ring for the same money LLL sells the vf magnifier with adapter ring!

Yes, I doubt Leica uses brass materials. I see no reason to buy the Leica brand version. Even with an extra lens correction diopter, I never achieved good results with the Leica 1.4x. mag.
Got me interested in. How much does it affect shooting 35mm and 50mm lenses? I tend to shoot wide open and am wondering would the 1,4x magnifier improve the focusing on these focal lengths.

Are the 35mm frame lines visible when using the magnifier or only the 50mm? If 50mm are the widest that can be seen, then would the entire frame outside the 50mm frame lines represent ~40mm?
