There's an alternative method of converting the Sony Raw file (which CS6 won't read) to a DNG, and process that DNG in ACR, and then proceed as above, but then I'm left with the dilemma of keeping both Raw files.

Have you heard of Topaz Denoise Ai? I haven’t tried it personally, but I’ve seen a few photographers on YouTube that seem to think highly of it.
I believe you can also use it as a plugin for either Photoshop or Lightroom.

Yes, I'm aware of it, but not sure if it will work in my now-ancient CS6.

I finally caved last year and signed up to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography plan. I loathed the idea of paying a monthly subscription. But at least I will always have the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom.

Capture1pro is worth trying, low stress, quick. You can process or preprocess with DXO3 (new) or edit individual raw files in any (I guess) version of PS.
Same applies to other formats, but it's easier to maintain raw versions until ready to export.

Out and about in Lake Clark NP hunting bruins and found several juvenile Bald Eagles. Crazy how tolerant/curious they can be. This one was approx 25 yards away for the portrait-

C1Pro is now in Beta for C1 20 (not sure where 13-19 went ). It is free to be a Beta tester so can be a way to have a trial version longer than the normal 30 day trial. Just need to make an account and you can download it from the Beta section. Alternatively you can get C1 12 30 day trial.
Topaz AI can run as a standalone program so it shouldn't matter if which CS6 you use.

Thanks....got a card full of those shots as the Bittern wouldn't stop eating the bullfrogs. Glad I had taken a break from the R4 when that action happened....the R4 might have nailed it but I have to trust the A9 and 20FPS to nail the perfect pose. I did get a few other bullfrog meals with the R4.
Here is a more serene Bittern shot. This Bittern is an uncommon bird around here and I guess this one was released last weekend from the rehab centre and has stayed at this same location for the past week. Works for me as long as I crop out his leg jewelry.
