Photographing these skittish birds under dark, humid conditions and there were lots of mosquitos inside the make-shift blind/hide but still, it was worth it, I would say. There are 2 mosquitos on that bird as matter of fact...

Hi Joshua,
Excellent work as always. So, I presume based upon the images that you are posting that the 200-600mm G performed quite well with the A7rIV. Did you also use the lens with the A1 as well during your trip? Also, overall, which lens did you find more useful on your trip, the 200-600mm G or the 600mm GM?

Thank you very much, Rich! No question about the performance of the G 200-600mm lens. For that particular location, my A1 with the GM 600mm was on a tripod aiming at perches that according to Luis would be commonly used by those birds. They did come but very briefly and I had the chance to use the setup on the tripod. But in the meantime to be a little bit more mobile, I carried the G lens on the A7r IV and used the setup photographing these birds at less than ideal spots.
I used that lens on the A1 as well but mostly the GM on that camera. On that trip since the lighting conditions were low, at least most of the time, the GM 600mm did get used significantly more than the G zoom lens. I used that G zoom lens for multiple flash setups of hummingbirds.

Snowy Egrets are common birds but have comical, photogenic antics when in groups. They often hunt like Reddish Egrets which get all the attention. Some Snowy Egrets in terrible light:

ISO 400, f9, 1/500 second.
Exposure Corrected +0.78 Stops.

Excellent. I have some really crappy, blurry shots of this bird. It remains on my "hit list".

Thank you very much, Mike! I got “lucky” on the second visit to Ecuador; on the first visit, they were so far away and/or covered by foliage that it was virtually impossible to get any good image.
