Quick question for you guys. How do you transport your 200-600 to location? I’m in the process of figuring this out. I’m struggling to figure out any other use beyond using the large cube for the 200-600. The rest of my kit that I would want to bring on a trip would fit into the medium cubes. This may not help. I use the MindShift BackLight 18L Backpack, it can hold the 200-600+1.4TC attached to a Sony body, with the hood in reverse position, of course. The 200-600 is a pretty big lens to pack for international travel, IMHO, because it's not retractable.

At least for Air Travel and on streets, board walks, and Nature Wildlife refuges, I carry the lens in one of the Think Tank Photo rollers. The smallest will allow the lens and other gear loaded. The smallest is the Airport Advantage:

https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/airport-series/products/airport-advantage

Larger Think Tank rollers will also accept the lens and other gear.

But, the rollers can get heavy with gear and you can go over the weight restrictions. The Advantage Pro is small enough to fit the Travel size specs, but check the weight particularly for international travel.

For a Backpack, you have to decide what you want to carry and what you are willing to carry for size and weight.

The largest of the Think Tank/Mindshift Backpacks is the Backlight Elite 45L:

https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/backlight-series/products/backlight-elite-45l-backpack

The Backlight Elite 45L has a removable camera insert which has backpack straps and can be removed in a pinch to carry on to a plane. It also has a removable waist belt and top fanny pack which can possibly allow for air travel if you cynch down on the straps. Additionally, if you do not want to carry the lens, Think Tank/Mind Shift offer the Stash Master 13L which fits in the Backlight Elite 45L and takes the place of the original camera compartment.

Thanks. That is useful information. I need a better backpack, as my 200-600 lens plus camera (no TC) just barely squeezes in.

Got tired of being cooped up for the last week and the cold front was blowing through as I made my way to the wildlife refuge. This is one of 2 crested caracara which were surveying lunch, sadly, I missed their capture of the snowy egret.

I suspect this snowy egret that I saw with a "flock" of about 6, to camera right, was the unlucky one for these 2 crested caracara

Are the CC predators or scavengers?

I have only witnessed them scavenging, a friend of mine has watched a few fishing in his nearby ponds.

EDIT: Does catching crabs count as being a predator?

Just to clarify, the 200-600+1.4 TC+ a9 or a7r4 combo can fit in one side of the Mindshilft 18, but it’s a little bit tight, not an issue for me.

Some more bald eagles from Sunday, after a while they all look the same.

Thanks for illustrating how the lens and camera fit in the backpack. It looks like there is still room for another body and a few lenses depending on size.

I just saw Mark Smith's YT video from Conowingo dam. Great shots from both of you! I think next year - assuming travel is safe - my wife and I will be there this time of the year. Can't wait to travel again. Here in Colorado its all Red-tail Hawks and Great Horned Owls.

The other side of the case can easily fit a Sony 100-400 on a body, with one or two short lenses, I don’t use all the dividers. You can certainly store another body and quite a few lenses in the other side. My pictures and Mark Smiths’ shouldn’t really be in the same sentence . But thank you! He is one of the best BIF photographers I have seen and a great story teller too.

I’m using a ThinkTank Streetwlker (older version, not the pro). Fits very similar to what Douglas showed in the Mindshift. I’d assume the V.2 Streetwalker is similar. I’d actually prefer the Mindshift 18L for its rear access. Looks like the Mindshift may have just a touch more room than the Streetwalker but I can just squeeze in when TC is on.

If I’m taking my 600/4 out I use my F-stop Anja with XL ICU for both lenses, both TCs and a body. But all is disassembled.

You long lens guys should really take a look at the Ruggard Alpine 600 for the all in full body and lens ready to shoot right out of the back ! I found this to be a fantastic way to carry.
