Okay looked at the images. First off they suck and completely worthless. Shooting at F11 and F 16 tells me this guy knows nothing about diffraction and than nothing wide open. Really where do they get these bozos. Totally blowing that off
Back to guess work. And you wonder why I hate these reviewers. Classic example

At ephotozine, shooting at f/11 or even more is their specialty... I totally don't get it, there is not even a shot taken wide open...
And sometimes, their graph don't match AT ALL with their samples. (You can look for their samyang FE 14mm review for instance, it's impressive)
Just wanted to note that that less-than-perfect ephotozine review did a re-test with an a7riii and found: "The opportunity arose to re-run the MTF and CA tests with a higher resolution body, the 42MP Sony Alpha A7R III. The lens really had the opportunity to shine even further, especially in terms of central sharpness.
Sharpness centrally is excellent at f/1.4, but rises still further to outstanding from f/2 through to f/4. It is excellent from f/5.6 to f/11 and although diffraction is steadily encroaching on performance, still very good at f/16.
The edges are excellent from f/1.4 through to f/5.6, very good at f/8 and f/11 and still good at f/16.
I am really happy with my FE 85. The thing just works all the damn time, it痴 really sharp, and really small. I wish it were 1.4 and would happily trade a few more grams for the faster aperture as long as the AF is really good and the midfield is solid wide open at the rule of thirds.
I知 definitely curious about this lens, but I can wait for a sale if I do make the switch. 85mm is a popular focal length and there are so many great 85mm options at every budget level already. I feel like they could have sold more 24-28mm or 100-135 primes, but I do hope it sells really well and Samyang continues to make more affordable AF options.

I saw at least one WO shot.
The IQ looks great, the size is small, most won't require the on-lens aperture adjustment of the GM, so imo this will be a winner.
The issue with comparing this to the 1.8FE is that the 1.8 WO isn't great, it's CA and sometimes ugly bokeh with severe mechanical vignetting that distorts specular highlights may be avoided with the Samyang.
Well once again I知 the guinea pig. I gotta stop doing this.
I need something to keep me busy until my Sony 135 arrives and this maybe a good compliment to it. I sold my Sony 85. So I値l give this a go and if it sucks it goes back. Grabbed it from Adorama. Hopefully have it next week
I'm really looking forward to owning this lens. While it's substantially heavier than the FE 85, it's not too much bigger, looks like something that can easily fit into my peak 5L. Pair it with another body and the 35 f1.4 and call it a day, quit looking for the magical 35 f1.8, and be happy with the SY pairing.
My biggest concern is I had terrible luck with there 50 and the 35 the AF accuracy was jumping around. I知 hoping they solved that with this lens. I値l test it against my Sony 50 1.4 if it痴 even close to my 50 which is a outstanding copy and gold standard than I would be thrilled . The AF does not have to be faster than the Sony 85 1.8 just equal to it would be great and faster than my Sony 50. I知 not expecting miracles just a good quality lens that keeps up.

If it makes you feel better Guy, you're not alone. I have a pre-order in as well, I think a bit before you so maybe I'll beat you to the punch. I moved back to an A7RII though, so you'll have to check the AF on the MkIII bodies.

lenstation is only $60 at adorama, and firmware makes all the difference. Quickness is the biggest issue with my SY so far, not a big deal as these arent typical sporting lenses.

Well I had it and all the lenses where current. The 50 was just flat out a bad copy
yeah, I hear the 50 was the worst, however, there's also a FW version out as of January this year.
I got the 35 pretty darn late, only a year ago, and there's been new FW versions since then, it's almost like the metabones/sigma mc 11 games you need to play. it can make a big difference. Either way, I'll own the 1.4 samyangs since they're relatively inexpensive for lenses that I dont use a whole lot, it makes sense. Same can be said about the 135A, simply too big to be used casually, and quite franking, a 950g 135GM is rather large as well. I never warmed up to the 85GM, simply due to size as well, but if it were low priced, I'de own it for the heck of it.
So please post if you folks get email confirmation on shipping from either BH and Adorama. I知 hoping not to many pre ordered this so I get it right away.
Which is in line with a lot of manufacturers these days, most notably Fuji. They release their lens, capture the early adopters, then 3-6 months start having some lens sales, in which the new lens is usually $50-100 off. Larger discounts tend to happen around a year in.

Not complaining... but got their 35/1.4 for about $400 US when they ran a 20% cash back w/ Amazon Prime card in December. It asks $598 now, and I think it was $699 at launch. They are very aggressive with discounting until sales volume is where they want it (I assume). It's smart from a revenue perspective, but also means I won't buy until it gets an initial mark down.
