I'm trying to use Nik Software collection (the Google free-delivered version), in particular Dfine2 plugin in that suite.
I can see a bit of background noise in your pic, but I think it can be got ridden of quite easily in Dfine2 (I am not fond of LR noise reduction at all)
Thanks I downloaded it and find it better also but have no idea how to use it other than automatic the tutorial is weak can you recommend any sources or videos on how to use Define2 it looks like there is much more you can do that what little I have figured out.

Thanks, Terry
There is a manual mode, you add evaluation areas with the dashed square button, so you can choose which areas to use, and you can reduce contrast noise reduction and color noise reduction, I usually lower the contrast slider, and then set opacity on dfine layer. I am not aware of youtube resources to learn better usage of Dfine2, but I admit I didn't look for them either
Playing around with the A6400 and 2XTC in less than perfect conditions. It started to rain when I went out, but gave it try anyway just to see how it would do. Better than I expected under the circumstances , but less than ideal . Plus I accidentally must have move the dial to f/13, f/11 is bad enough but f/13 AARGH !!

Thanks I have been using Define2 that you recommended for noise reduction and it does a better job than LR although I know little about the program I have just used automatic but it reduces the noise. I need to watch a few youtube and figure out how to use it better and will.
I followed a friend's suggestion, I was not happy with my noise reduction tools, he suggested me to try Dfine2 and use it combined with masks, I am quite still in the learning path, but I find it good in many situations. It just needs some practice and learning. Try to use the Reduce tab (even with automatic mode) to balance contrast noise reduction and Color noise, I usually reduce contrast a good bit and then mask in PS the level where I need a different (or none at all) noise removal.

Terns were in a feeding frenzy with a school of sand whiting in the gutter close to the beach shore. Alas light was poor so ISO's went pretty high using the 100-400 + 1.4x. Really would have loved a 48MP A9 for these.

All I can say, after taking lots of photos of terns (and very slowly getting better at it, but...) is WOW. Really nice series!!

Thanks Kim.
Until I got the A9 and D500 I didn’t have a lot of keepers of terns in action. I got about 800 other shots from this that were keepers out of about 900 total. Just needed more pixels/longer FL and better light. These are really heavy crops and the birds weren’t that far away.
