It would be nice but I'm afraid they can't use a similar design for regular mirrorless cameras. The lens would have to be bigger to perform similarly and I don't even think Zeiss is interested in developing new lenses for mirrorless anymore.
Yeah, that’s why I said body. I would like to see a stripped down ZX1, or maybe the mythical RX1R3 adopt this lens…thought I doubt we see either.

It's hard to know but we can assume there is low sales volume. That adds another negative when purchasing it because Zeiss could just abandon the development of software updates and/or new features for the camera.

I see, yes that would be a great opportunity but the Zeiss/Sony partnership is no longer there and the RX1R3 is definitely looking mythical at this point.
It seems that Leica succeeded with their Q and Q2 cameras despite their high pricing.

Yeah, really seems to have dried up. I keep hearing the ZA stuff is done (Loxia too), and it seems to be with the lack of releases. ZM line has been abandoned for even longer. Some of the DSRL formulas are new, but many were re-used, and those are shared by the cinema crowd. Always makes me wonder. Real bummer though--I still enjoy Zeiss glass as much as anyones.
I also don't think we'll get a stripped down ZX1 or RX1. But, you never know.

Have you tried the Q or Q2? I've never played with them but the 28/1.7 lens gets a lot of praise.

I have been very tempted and I have briefly used a couple over the years. The Qx cameras are operationally the complete antithesis of the RX1r2--so easy and pleasant to use. But it's a lot bigger, and I am not convinced by the 28/1.7 draw, especially at that price. So given the size and the draw aren't to my preference, I can't quite pull the trigger.

It's all about the lens for these cameras, that's why the RX1 series was so successful. I'm surprised Sony didn't update it. yet.

Feel like the rx1 series is indefinitely on hiatus for two reasons. The first would be Sony either doesn't want to pay up, or Zeiss didn't want to give out the option of licensing the Sonnar again because of the zx1. Related to this: the development of the α7 C and compact G/i-series lines kind of cut into the rx1 market—not directly, but that Venn diagram has some substantial overlap.
The second is that the rx1 is operationally a bit of a mess, whether you're talking battery life, lack of stabilization for such a high mp sensor, lack of sealing for such an expensive camera, or the unit focus drive just being on the ponderous side. You could maybe fix everything but the lens at this point—but then you probably get a package similar in size to an α7 C honestly. You might be able to shave off some size/weight by stabilizing the lens instead of the sensor, but the Z-type battery would definitely add some weight. As for the lens... well maybe the new miniaturized linear motors in the compact G line could be swapped in for the unit focus motors in the sonnar but if not Sony has a reputation it's been building for cutting edge AF performance they may not want to risk by releasing a product with sub par performance in that very area.
I really hope we see direct competition to the Q at some point, however. The latest iteration of Sony lens design (better understanding of aspherics + dual linear motors + computationally assisted lens design) hasn't seen its maximum potential in a fixed lens camera and it'd be a shame if we never got to see it.

Indeed I'd really would love to know whats taking so long about that curved sensor.
They've told us they have it long ago. But still no actual product.
I really dont expect them to make the lens smaller. I expect them to have a very bright lens - at least f/1.4.
To be fair, even if it was a success, it would still probably take at least 5 years before the next iteration.
A compact camera should be as compact as possible, yes. Thats why a curved sensor would be so wonderful.
I learned on this forum from another FM'er, that Sony has indeed produced and sold a camera with a curved sensor back in 2014. Once you see it, you might Not be surprised why many of us never heard about it

I'd say zero. You'd think that just ONE person who bought this camera would blog about it. You'd have the whole camera world as your audience. But no, not one has shown up.

It is obvious that some sold since B&H has 6 reviews (5 are verified buyers) and B&H has a used one for sale.

That is a very sad and sobering thought, but quite possibly true.
Hopefully, CV doesn't get into a similar situation any time soon.
Difficult to imagine how that could occur since, unlike Zeiss's still photography division, CV has competent management. Whereas Zeiss obviously does not.

Maybe the problem is we are assuming Zeiss has management
