or is it a typo?
Will probably have to wait and see.
Yeah, that's correct. It's just that for whatever reason most of the time OEMs are listing specs in dots rather than pixels, so 2M pixels sounds worse than 3.69M dots even though it's significantly higher resolution.

Optical computer.
Design minimalism: stark, angular and awkward, disrespect for the shape of human hands, the hands of their customers. Recessed rubberized lens rings. Aluminium. 800 grams (RX1 is 507g 'wet'). Will scratch easily, and many will drop it.
It's huge: 142mm wide x 93mm high; RX1 is 113mm x 65mm, a7r is 127mm x 94mm (better comparison than IBIS cameras).
"I am not sure who this camera is for?"
They say so: "we are focusing on *ambitious, professional creatives* who want to produce their photographic experiences quickly and efficiently, and inspire as many people on the Internet as possible."

There is nothing about this camera that I like except the lens, which should be on a Sony A7R3 instead of this. I'm really surprised that a traditional company like Zeiss would make something so post modern. Who would want it? It looks very hard to use. I think the Sony version is much nicer. I think anyone who wants to upload from their camera to Facebook or Instagram would just use a phone. Who needs an expensive high res camera for that? Maybe I'm just getting too old Great prop for a sci fi movie though

correct and makes more sense. 3,69M dots are about 1,2Million pixels, so 2M pixels in the ZX1 are significant.

young smart people, excuse me, "smartphone" people
I find the camera still very innovative, of course they won't sell many, but maybe cameras in future will have feature like this?

As an early millennial in the tech industry, I find the camera body to be far more compelling than the lens. This is exactly what a well executed clean sheet design of a 2010-era century rangefinder-style camera should look like and have in terms of features. Every other true camera out there is stuck in the 1950's through the early 2000s with respect to their layouts, software and basic core design concepts.
This has clean design, some necessary ergonomic dials and buttons, touch screen driven, modern mobile-focused software OS (my guess is it runs on Android if it comes with lightroom). The biggest advantage smartphones have over cameras is the software and the ability to run applications on top of it. The only two things missing on this Zeiss camera body is an interchangeable mount (I would have taken an E-mount, M-mount or even a new "Zeiss-mount") even if the lenses aren't as good as the 35mm and built-in cellular connectivity so you can share without a mobile phone.
I can see a future version of this camera embracing computational photography by auto-enhancing portraits in camera or having a built in depth sensor so you can refocus pictures after they're taken.
Kudos to Zeiss for being so forward thinking. I would consider buying one partly to support this concept depending on how insane the price will be. I took up photography in the early 2010s (can't believe we're in the late 2010s already!) and none of the nostalgia-focused products ever truly appealed to me. This with an interchangeable mount is exactly what I'm looking for.

Cool that are they trying to solve workflow problem (sharing photos) with most cameras relative to smartphones, but not sure this is the way to do it...
Most of the people I know most frustrated with dedicated camera workflow have Nikon or Canon consumer dSLRs with kit glass. They are happy to spend $1K+ on new Apple or Huawei smartphones to get better cameras and benefit from the integrated take / edit / share / backup / manage photo capabilities of their phones. No camera manufacturers have solved these problems and they've just moved on.
Maybe this is less a camera and more just a luxury consumer electronics device targeting a consumer segment I don't understand.

If this Zeiss camera came with a 4/3 or APS-C sensor, an interchangeable lens system, and priced competitively with that class of cameras, I think it could sell quite well. Your average consumer is willing to tolerate consumer-grade DSLRs and mirrorless cameras but they don't love it - you see plenty of them for traveling because they want to take memorable once in a lifetime photos but use smartphones 90% of all other times. The smartphone workflow is clearly superior minus the actual optics. This Zeiss camera bridges the gap although going after a pro/enthusiast audience first at a $3k+ price point might not be the right targeting.

I don't like the idea of bundling the camera with the software stack... I'd rather have a great camera with some low power high bandwidth wireless connection so that all my photos are on my device (phone / tablet / computer) automatically right away and I do everything from there.
I'd hate to have my software stack owned by a camera company. They've NO idea how to do software and how many firmware upgrades am I going to get over a couple years camera ownership.
I'd rather have all my photos from my capture device (camera) benefit from all the constant innovation happening on the mobile device side.

A company develops a new camera de novo with interesting features and lots of critics. I am happy to see any new developments and kudos to Zeiss for taking a risk.

Yeah, that's my worry. There's a lot interesting about this camera (the lens in awesome, built in LRCC is a good idea etc) but it's not for me. And some future small RX might be if they still exist...

A poll thread with yes or no (purchase) would be nice.

I like overall design... only three mechanical dials shutter, iso and aperture... i love it.
I want this clean design and these are only ones i use when i shoot... but i am not sure how to control the focusing points... maybe there’s a Pad just like Canon’s or Apple’s macbook pro
