I dunno, I know hundreds of young people, of the ones I've talked to, no one thinks it's particularly interesting. They're more impressed by the fact that I can get photos from my camera to my phone. That's the honest truth. Phone. Develop a competent app. It's that simple.
I dont know a single person under 40 who owns a standard camera. 100% of them use their iPhones. This Zeiss camera is utterly meaningless to young people.

I just turned 38 and have owned too many real cameras for about 8 years now. I know several others that want more than their iPhone as well and recognize the difference. So all in all I think this comment is way off.
And I wanted a real camera even sooner but had other spending priorities. Your last point is probably fair because fairly few young’ens can afford a 6K camera.

That is what happens in the comment section of about every Leica news item. So Zeiss has already achieved parity in this regard.

I agree to a point, for sure. But I do know lots, especially film. A flim SLR is a very common accessory around here. But the point is I do know a lot of kids who have mirrorless cameras, though my sample is distorted as I a) taught photography and b) as an ESL teacher, taught people who were usually travelling. But their urge isn't to spend $6k to edit RAW, much more to get it on their phone and post to Instagram. Or distribute to family. I just think that the Zeiss actually puts more steps in the way.

I'm embarrassed to say I watched the whole thing. Again kinda like slowly driving by that accident. You have to look right? The part that stuck out to me the most was when he says the screen has a greenish yellow tint and it's not a screen you would want to edit critical work on? Whaaaat? I mean am I missing something. I thought the whole point of this camera was you could edit your beautiful images on the back using lightroom. So instead the output is only good for instagram? For 6000 I would have expected a more color accurate LCD. Also he mentions if you don't look straight into the EVF it sounds like it looks soft or smeared at the edges inside. These seem like simple things that should have been addressed over the last 2 years, no?

That video is insufferable. Lol. I skipped around and couldn't even take a quarter of it. Did he post RAW's?

After further reflection, I have decided I might just become a buyer of this camera after all and it will replace my fleet of three, much-loved (but wounded and/or slowly dying) RX1s.
But only after Zeiss has given up on it and they can be bought for a small fraction (i.e., 20 % or less) of today's MSRP.
Just as a friend did earlier this year with the Lytro Illum, another camera that boasted revolutionary, breakthrough technology and a new packaging approach, but was basically D.O.A. and ultimately proved to be a commercial failure.

I played the whole video in the background while doing something else. It was mainly interesting to see how the UI on the camera looks. There seems to be very limited social media integration in ZX1 currently, just Instagram web app which was briefly shown and nothing else based on this video. In the menu view the only apps present were Lightroom and Instagram, tutorial, manual and support and no other options were mentioned at all. The main point demonstrated seemed to be the syncing of image updates between iPad and camera.
There was no talk about any RAW samples and not much focus on real photos taken with the camera.

The video guy’s experience of buying two ZX1 cameras gave me an idea for a competition that Zeiss could run to try to counter all the overwhelmingly negative feedback this innovative product has received. Entrants would simply have to describe how they would use a ZX1 to shoot, edit, and share a unique moment in their life.
The winner would receive a ZX1 camera. The runner-up would receive two ZX1 cameras.

When it comes to cameras and public forums, I find that certain brands evoke 'substandard conversations' where there often is nothing to gain for the reader - ok let's admit it's really the most of them when you dive deep enough . But as an example, take Leica & dpreview.com, and you will find endless complains about the price - even though every adult should know that there are expensive consumer products (luxuries) in every area of life, there's really nothing more than that into it.
I enjoy the intellectual conversation with pros & cons, which mostly happens here at FM, but regarding the ZX1 the thread, I have to say it is approaching the red level. It's like, not only is the ZX1 wrong and bad, but now also the youtubers who speak about are suspicious as well. For all I know, the youtube clip was fine and contributed to conversation.
I also wonder why all the hate, as for example the Pixii, which also represents a fresh new concept, doesn't get people as heated. If Sony would bring these features to their new A74, people would probably bless them as 'next level' or 'game changers' and be grateful for new weapons for the forum wars with Canon and Nikon.
How people react to this new concept of being connected kind of reminds me of how DSLR shooters reacted to mirrorless tech some years ago. Heresy, work of the devil and all...
I have to say the more I find out about the ZX1 the better it looks. Sure it is in it's first generation and all, but the connectivity with the LR and Adobe cloud looked very good. And please don't throw stones at me for behind the screen name I'm just a regular dad with two kids to feed which will be left as orphans if I get hurt at the forum wars!! Seriously, in peace with everyone.

I think people are more disappointed than hating personally. I know I sure was. I had high hopes when first rumored. Been waiting for an Rx1riii for like 5 years. I expected more out of a company like Zeiss. That said I should have know they are more concerned about looks than they should be based on the Batis line. I also don't think people are disputing some of the ideas are not good ones, regardless of how poorly they may be implemented. Personally again I see no use for Lightroom in a camera but others may feel differently. I think Zeiss was making this more complicated than they needed too. If someone just gives us a FF camera like the Rx1rii for example with the latest AF, nice 1.8/2 lens, touch screen, new menus, Ibis, and capabilities to have files instantly transfer to your phone. Then I think they will have a nice niche camera that will not cannibalize anything else they make and still sell enough of them to make it worth their time. Unfortunately now with the release of the A7C I think the chances of that camera coming to market are less and less.

Well, one could have objections to presentation qualities of that video but the content itself is very limited. It's mostly about menu and adobe sychronization, very little about actual photography content, besides blanket statements like "AF is generation behind".
So, to me it's simply not a good review of ZX1.

The idea of editing your photos on a 6 inch screen that has demonstrably inaccurate colors, having to subscribe in perpetuity to Adobe's ecosystem, and being compelled to pay $6,000 for the privilege is laughable.
This is a solution in search of a problem that they will never find.
Zeiss has lost a tremendous amount of reputation in the photographic world with this idiocy as can be seen across the various commentariat on the web. Only visibly paid shills are supporting this nonsense.

DPReview has published a studio shot taken with the ZX1, and it's clearly ahead of the Leica Q2. In particular, the faces on the left and right are more detailed. I also like the colors better, however, I don't know how the original looks like.

I agree, the ZX1 has more pleasing colours than the other 3 and captures more detail. It also handles higher ISO better than the other 3. Maybe something to build on.
