I feel you don't need silent shutter for Z7, with EFCS, it is so quiet that it may meet most of events need quietness. If you do enable silent shutter for Z7, the read out speed is only 1/15s and with delay for next shot.
With latest Adobe update, Z7 file is as delicious as D850s'.
I am pretty sure grip will be a battery extension only, there is no electronic contact on Z7. It is not a problem for me but I agree it will be an issue for many.
Ah I didn't know about the slow readout speed and delay. I agree the EFCS is pretty quiet on the Z7.
So being that you have a Z7 in hand, would you mind checking if there are any contacts in the battery bay like the Sony A7 bodies do for the vertical grip? I know the Z7 doesn't have an electronic connection on the bottom of the camera (like the EOS R) but I'm hoping they built the contacts in the battery bay..

I don't have it on hand, but I am 99.99999% sure there is no contact even inside the battery bay. Unless, they create some wireless control which I doubt. Sorry, you may have to leave with it or wait for next version.
However, unlike Sony, I feel Nikon usually take time to introduce their camera, I will predict next Z7 will be at least two year away. Maybe Z8/Z9?

Hm found one angle of the battery door from Ken Rockwell's review. Don't see any contacts on the side.. womp womp. Maybe it'll connect via bluetooth? Telepathy?

Interesting that B&H has the Z7 in stock but not the D850
They don't have the body or body + FTZ adapter in stock right now, but they do have the 24-70 plus body and 24-70 plus body and FTZ in stock.
For those looking for a deal, there is an open box Z7 with 24-70 f4 lens on B&H right now for $3649 (so $350 off retail price) for those lucky enough to be in a state that still doesn't charge sales tax.
Just double checked one and sadly, you are correct. Only electrical contacts inside the battery bay are for the battery itself. No mysterious unused terminals inside the bay :/

The 70-200f4 perform great in AF-S and AF-C single however if I choose AF-C wide or small area, it has tendency lock to background. I seldom have this issue with D850, though there is no Wide/small area mode for it but in auto area mode with face detection, D850 almost never fail.
Z7 may not perform the best for wheel chair spec readers. However it slowly climbs up the ladder for me from initial B~B+ rating to a A after each trip and continuing using and customizing it, I would give it the same solid score as D850. No, D850 is still more versatile tool that suit for everything you throw on it. However, you should not ignore Z7’s merits over it such as: size and weight, light and high performance zoom and future S glass, very silent shutter, you can handhold it get better sharpness images, all advantage of EVF shooting without problems other system I had (I am a hardcore OVF fan), video and IBIS. Adapting pretty much any glasses…..
I enjoy using it very much even with a few problems that I hope Nikon are not purposely crimp it. Such as no focus confirmation for AIS, ZF.2 or any manual lens, no aperture linkage for AIS lens so no EXIF, No option for auto aperture and stop down shooting until f5.6, (it would be nice to change f5.6 to f2.8 or have option to shooting WO), no control ring for FTZ adapter, FTZ adapter interfere Arca type plate, no multiple shot raw output like D850, no AF mode change on fly (for D850, I can use AFON to bring auto area or 3D tracking instantly, for no reason Z7 remove this option) etc….
However, even with these, It is THE best MILC under current market for me, it is largely a small D850 for my use.
I don’t visit Nikon forum daily and created here in Alt forum
The thread has different priority than Nikon forum here and it is more alt people oriented. If you are interested, you can drop in and share some love and joy EVEN with native Nikon Lenses. I look forward to receive my Leica M adapter for Z7. With 1.1mm sensor stack and 45M iso64, this is an ultimate image making machine.
Did they fix the missing camera profile in Lightroom? zhangyue wrote:

yes, in additional adobe color, standard, landscape etc... now camera standard, camera neutral etc are available now. Before latest upgrade, in Lightroom, it will show missing camera profile.

Too bad Scorpio already went down by the time the sky was dark enough to take a picture. The consolation was that the sky was quite cloudy right at sunset so I thought that night was a no go initially.
Hi,Sung, Sorry I reported extra delay with silent shutter. It is false. I just did another test that there is no noticeable extra delay. I think I might have accidentally enable the image review before. And because of z7 shutter was so quiet with EFCS, I don’t use silent shutter since then.
Under LED light or most indoor light in US,if you select shutter speed at multiple of 1/60s such as 1/30 or 1/60s or 1/120s, there is no banding for 60Hz AC. Though you don’t want capture anything fast moving to avoid rolling shutter.

Phew Thanks for the follow up re silent shutter and the delay. As for banding, I'm not concerned.
I got mine yesterday but unfortunately no time to have a play with it till Sunday.
A couple of things that I liked straight out is the feel of the camera and just holding it. Much better than my Fuji xt-2.
If your a Nikon user you will feel at home, just pick it up and go. Just feels like a Nikon.
The one thing that really stood out for me is IBIS. Just playing around in dark environments it did an amazing job. Handholding at 1/4s and getting sharp images is great.
A quick question if a lens has VR do you use both inbody stabilization and VR or stick to one?

The manual is typically opaque on this . . .
I believe that if it is a Nikon lens with VR (lens shift in Nikon speak), setting the VR to ON will by default use both the lens and camera VR to best effect (as long as the lens VR switch is on as well).

My understanding is with IBIS and F mount without VR you have 3 axis stabilization and with F mount VR you have 5 axis stabilization. As to the practicality and usage I really don't know

From the Nikon website:
"A 5-axis optical VR system is built right into Z series cameras for up to 5 stops* of image stabilization when using NIKKOR Z lenses and up to 3-axis VR when using F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. Additional electronic VR (e-VR) can be combined during video capture."
But it doesn't specifically address F-Mount lenses with VR. And the manual is typically of no help at all.
