I have not tested the tracking abilities of the z7 in low light but I have shot single AF in lowlight/night and I find it focuses better in the dark than my D850. Maybe tracking is its Achilles heel but it does focus well in lowlight in normal situations
I saw this heron half a mile from home this morning so grabbed the Z7 and my 70-300 AF-P and 80-400G, plus FTZ of course.
I have a lot to learn with this camera ( it arrived PM yesterday) especially for BIF - most of my shots when the heron took off were disasters.

NIce shots.....really thinking about getting the Z6 though and selling off my D750 24-120F4 combo.

Thanks!
I actually have a Z6 pre-ordered because I felt it might be a great complement to my D850 and a lot less expensive than the Z7 - or that I might sell the D850 and have a pair of Z's, a 6 and a 7. However I think I will most likely cancel the Z6 as the potential video superiority has no allure for me and it would be really hard to give up the high resolution.
The jury is still out as to whether I can get enough out of the Z7 for BIF and similar so let go of the 850. Clearly most of the missed focus when the heron was in flight was my fault and largely due to complete lack of experience with the camera while I have had the 850 for a year now. If BIF was my primary interest I think the answer would be a clear no but travel and landscape are just as appealing to me.
On a trip to Venice in June I always had my D7200 and 16-80 with me, while most days the 850 stayed in the hotel room. The Z7 with the 24-70 S promises to be a great upgrade to that kit with really no weight or size penalty. The 24-70 seems superb with no visible flare, and little loss of contrast, shooting into the rising sun this morning. On the Z6 you might miss the reach of the 24-120 - though certainly not the weight! On the Z7 I can get very close to the reach of the 16-80 with a DX crop.
If anyone's interested in seeing a pro NFL shooter putting the Z7 through its paces, check out @rodmarphoto on instagram. He's posted up several shots in his insta stories and they look great.

Wonder what Elijah said about your new toys. Did he try it himself? I presume that's him on last shot.
he did like the way it feels for sure, the ergo.
the adaptor and 35 had not reached me yet.
we only had the 24-70s, and neither of us are an f4 type of shooter.
just took a couple of shots, but didn't have time to get dialed in - to say the least.
he did shoot with my sony stuff at one scene with the 85 and another scene with the 35
he didn't like the buttons, or the grip size, etc.
he did love EYE AF though.
He is rocking all Canon DSLR
shot 35/85 1.4 40/40% and 16-35 20%
I shot with a 5DIV last year (for one weekend on loan from canon CPS) and it felt improved from the III, but still not the DR I'm used to.

Elijah? That guy practically sold me on Nikon with his images -- did he switch to Canon lol?
Taken with the Z7 and 24-70 at 40mm. I opened in LR and edited in PS.
Just got back from a trip out east but did not have a cable release, camera takes some getting used too but I think it's a keeper.
I used a spare mount I had but this did not work when using the adapter for my other lenses.
Received mine today...crazy lightweight compared to dslrs. Still can’t open the files via dng converter but looks like I need to do an update on LR from reading posts here.
Image samples and face tracking demo from a portrait shoot, seems to find the eyes well enough.
I did some headshots for a business last week with the z7 + FTZ + 24-70VR and it was tracking faces/heads as they moved in and out of the frame. I forgot if it focused as they transitioned, as a habit I use back button focus.
