Got my ftz today, z7 with kit lens should be here in a couple of days. It is heading to Egypt in two weeks, I better figure out how to set it up before I go! These pics look great.

Thank you very much, Jose!

Lovely shots! The 8-15 looks great!

How do you guys feel about the build quality of the new S lenses. I'm interested in the 24-70S f4 and 50S f1.8. It's been awhile since I had Nikon and I'm thinking about the Z6. Plus I see Nikon has Limited 4-Year USA Warranty Extension with Online Registration

Thanks
Dennis

They feel solid and well built, built as well as the pro spec G/E lenses but the design is more your "modern" Sony type look. I have no issues with the build quality.

Thanks Lance,
It was the "official" debut and I was impressed by the sharpness;
bad side is the plastic contruction (always an issue for old farts like me, used to heavy metal Nikkors ), mostly the sloopy and flimsly hood.

Can I ask a couple of 'lazy' questions of you guys/gals?

At the last minute I decided to get a z7 with kit lens and ftz for an upcoming trip to Egypt. I'm leaving in five days, just got everything late yesterday. I'm interested in basic settings for scenery indoors and out, as well as basic video settings. Are there sites or lists of key settings that you use that work as a good starting point? I'm not expecting to see much in the way of wildlife so I can deal with those issues after I get back. Looking forward to getting great images and basic video out of the camera though.

Thanks!

I used "You Tube for general questions and settings
and then changed them closer to what I wanted
That was with a Z6 I don't think it would be that different

Finally got my Z7 underwater. AF works well. I used mostly 8-15mm Fisheye but also took Z7 with 105/2.8 macro for a night dive and AF was better than I expected. It can't compete with D500 or D850 for blackwater diving for sure but for general macro stuff, it did not let me down for sure.

Has anybody used 24-120 f/4 on Z7? If so what's the opinion about it? I currently only have the "kit" 24-70 f4 and I'm thinking about replacing it 24-120 f/4 as it provides better range and then pick up 35/50 primes for light weight setup.

Also, has anyone compared 24-70 S vs 24-120 f4 in terms of IQ?

According to some tests I’ve read the (Photographylife) 24-70 S is better than the 24-70E, so it should be much better than the 24-120 except from 71-120.

Much has been said about the Z 50 S's bokeh--mostly negative. And I agree that it is not creamy smooth. Instead I'd call it brash, and I kind of like it.

A little video shot in 1080p slowmo (actually shot it in slowmo accidentally) with the Z7 and 35 f1.8S.

The auto area AF and AF-C mode, selecting subjects via the rear touch screen works great. I quite like the natural feel of the focus racking - better in my opinion than the AF-C in my Sonys when shooting video, as the Sonys AF racking is really quick and jerky.

I am no videographer, and this was shot on a whim while we were celebrating my nephew's bday, so please be civil with your comments

Thank you very much

My family is a tough crowd in more ways than one haha. My parents are getting on age wise and are both disabled (if you look closely you'll notice that my Dad is missing a few fingers from working in construction) so I've been trying to capture as many little moments as possible while we have them around. I love that it captures quite accidentally an interaction between my dad and my developmentally disabled niece, who primarily communicates in basic sign language. Also fun fact, my parents built the room from top to bottom that this was taken in. Didn't have much growing up, but thankfully recycled building materials and construction off seasons made sure we had a cozy home to live in!

There's nothing that can capture the moment like video! Nice job.

Ha thanks, I just felt like a moron recording it all in slow motion, but as the late great Bob Ross said, no mistakes just happy accidents

Wonderful video clip! This is what most people look for in easy/simple video clips that are not hard work.
