Awesome, thanks, Sung...I remember reading you bought one and I know you -- like me -- have used several Nikon/Sony systems so I was very curious of your impressions. Sounds like a more-than-capable camera...I might grab it or the Z6. sungphoto wrote:

True but if that is the case I which they would say so even if it is in a general way like “...and other minor fixes”. I don’t have much experience with Nikon firmware updates and how they are communicated so maybe this is just about poor (I’m my opinion) communication or there is nothing more in the update than what they listed.

Yes, Charles, there seems to be a few behind the scenes corrections going on. The time to wake up after the camera goes to sleep and then brought to your eye for shooting has been halved, much quicker now.
Also, Jim Kasson (over on DPR) and I believe that the zoomed in latency for manual focusing is quicker now, less lag. Jim has measured it previously at 220ms and now measured at 150ms.
To add to this, if you find that the wake up time from sleep is still an issue, a tip that I have found is to half press the shutter as you first grab the camera from around your neck, or wherever you have it, and by the time you have brought it to your eye it is ready for action.

Nothing really new here Fuji does the same with ongoing updates which is a good thing. Nikon often does not communicate directly or clearly as it should and for instance look in the manual for the D850 there are many features often not disclosed fully.

This is just confirmation to what my instinct was already telling me, and I tried to express it towards some of those reviews posted over here, but it's hard without any evidence!
I have less and less interest to watch and read reviews posted by professional reviewers, they are most likely driven by industry, rather than by the thoughts and feel of the reviewers.
I don't even want to mention lack of knowledge about particular product, how to properly set it up, or how to use it, before publishing a review about certain product.

Expert knowledge is not necessary these days, just create your own YouTube channel, say you are an expert, and Bob’s your uncle. I have no idea whether or not that Frodo Nose chap knows what he is talking about, mainly because I can’t watch his videos to the end, but he is very annoying. And to be fair to him, he is far from unusual. Anyway, I must rush, I have a YouTube channel to create.
But seriously, I prefer reviewers like Hogan, who from a technical viewpoint provide a fair and balanced assessment, without the desire to create controversy as click bait.
It is so interesting watching the internet discussions. Yes the Z7 has its AF quirks but as a real camera for real photographers it is proving to be quite amazing.
That's a helluva lens to be rendered 'upgraded' with the Z7
Absolutely agree with his assessment of 'holding a Sony' too ... so it's good to see so many time-honored photogs lauding the benefits of the new Z-mount.
My big moment of excitement, as this new mount/system continue to evolve, will be at its peak when Nikon starts rolling-out their uber-fast glass, in particular if they continue the trend of creating an all-new MF 'Noct' set to complement the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct. (I have a sneaking suspicion Nikon will be developing a special MF-only Z-mount lens line, in a select-few focal lengths, giving a decades-overdue facelift to their ancient AI-S line.)
Speaking of MF, just as exciting will be when Voigtländer add the Z-mount as an option for their 65mm f/2 Macro APO-Lanthar and (upcoming) 110mm f/2.5 Macro APO-Lanthar. These lenses are Otus-like in performance, and yet have macro capability, rendering them priceless compared to others.
Zeiss Loxia-type lenses should be following soon as well ... so the future is pretty exciting, imo.
Imaging resource posted 1st samples from Z6 they recently received. Not sure if that's the lens they used for testing (60mm 2.8) but compared full size to A7 III they look softer even at iso 100. Thoughts?

To be fair, close to 100% of reviewers have favored Nikon ergonomics (and EVF) over Sony's.
The 3 outfits (another 100% of those) who've done a teardown of both top tier cameras favor Nikon's craftsmanship/build quality construction over Sony's.
And, finally, Lloyd specifically said the clunkiness of third-party adapters ... trying to configure "other brands' lenses" to Sony ... in stark contrast to the seamlessness of Nikon's own in-house adapter matching its own designed/engineered F-mount, is another refreshing difference between the two.
That's not being biased, it's recognizing and giving credit for Nikon's superiority and advantages in some very important respects.

To be reasonable Lloyd's comments are unfair to the A7rIII It just flames brands when there is absolutely no need to and I hope we are all past this now!
The Z7 is proving to be more than just a MILC with FTZ adapter but as an excellent MILC Z mount for differing adapters with sensor glass cover of only 1.1mm. Early days still but I suspect the Z7 will prove to be superb for wide ranging types of lenses. Exciting times!

Agreed - having shot the Z7 the last couple weeks, as well as owning the A7R3 for short period (primarily to use for some tabletop still-life work as well as just to play around with a new toy), as well as almost every other iteration of the A7 line aside from the A9, Lloyd's opinions about the Z7 are pretty spot on.

This is what I have done on the Sony's as well as shutting off the camera between periods of shooting. It has become muscle memory for me with some practice.

Yes, its funny how some things we do now with our cameras ends up as an automatic response, like this.
