This was a cross post I answered about best alt body for adapt lens. Since this is mainly for Z. I will put it here as well. So many talk I know. I will post a few images after went through.
I didn't notice that delay during focusing actually. So no, it will not bother me at all. I bet it will not bother you guys as well for whenever you are doing magnification view for shooting. I did Aperture series with 24-70S, 24-70G, 28E, 55OTUS, I always do when I got new gear. I don't even notice that during shooting, I use manual focus for them all and later on I found out 24-70S’s AF at least was as good as my manual focus results. For magnified shooting, I am pretty sure your focusing is slower than delay. 24-70S FBW does not have decent implementation. This make condition worse I guess. At that time, I thought it was because of FBW implementation, but now I think both at play. However, given the AF performance, its control ring is mainly for exposure compensation control for me.
I actually first noticed it a few days ago when I 100% view in EVF, and if I move my camera a little, It starting give me slide show. So I know there must be some delay. Also, during full 100% image review after capture, if you scroll around viewing area, there is also some slower refreshing compare to D850. However, zoom itself is instant, image delete, next image, manual control, touch screen responsiveness all first class, as good as D850, better than pretty much anything I ever used from other brand. After 3 days trip, I can report this is best viewing EVF experience I ever had from any camera including SL. Whatever I complained before about A7RII, Z7 is either totally fix it or make it good enough for me under most challenged case: under full California Sun during harsh hour. LCD at back is clear with superb clarity for manual selection. Top LCD is always visible clearly even under direct sunlight. After “i” button LCD seems dark, I couldn’t figure this out yet. Change LCD brightness doesn’t affect it somehow.
Shutter is so quiet and snappy and if EFC enabled, it is even quieter. I don’t think you need silent shutter at all during most events.
One Battery can easily last my whole day shooting. I didn’t shoot over 500 images a day this time. However, being an engineer myself, I know where this low power rating comes from: This is a very high performance machine, every single electron work hard for you to have incredible viewing experience, flickering free, always clean and clear with superb clarity on both EVF and LCD. Operating is also responsive as fast as best SLR out there. My only complaint would be start up there is about 1 sec delay, this just can’t compare with Nikon DSLR. Many time, I have to wait a little after already raise camera to face, this is a concern for capture kids though.
Don’t listen. Rent it, borrow it or go to store try it. Do some research on set up and use it a whole day. You will find there is only one way to find you best tool. I have to say It is over deliver to me. I didn't expect it can replace D850 for me at all. 24-70S make it in even stronger position, this is a RX1 on steroid without ergonomics problem. With future WA and other S prime, I might run duel Z7 body. My D850 will be on B&S board soon....Show more →
