Superb examples Michael! The 24-70/f4s really shines in your hands. Also I love your more pastel post processing as it blends wonderfully with the rendering of the Z7 sensor.

Hi, Charles, Thanks again.

Anybody know if there is place we can order NOVOFLEX Z adapter in US, I tried to check out at their Germany website, but can't that they are not offering international shipping now, at least to US.

I saw ebay has shorten Leica M to Z offered at $65, I prefer pay more for novoflex, especially they will have tripod collar ASTAT in the future.

A few more images with 24-70S.

I haven't post random images like this for a few years. However, I want keep this thread going here in Alt forum. I gave it B to B+ initially, but after each out with it, it win me over a little more each time. I bought it as a D850 back up and travel camera, but now I am thinking use it and S lens replace D850 and F lens pending a few more information and a few more in field usage.

As a reference, I brought A7 to China and Zion and A7RII to Canada Rocky and Sequoia NP. each time after trip, I decide sell the units and decided it is not there yet AGAIN. RX1 was the only one be able to stay with me more than 5 years, it is not because it is problem free but a trade off I am willing to take, its merit take over. The same thing happen here with Z7, I wish it is slightly taller for better holding and I wish it is bug free that were listed in my previous posts and the list may keep going with more use but it get fundamental right such as viewing experience and minimal shutter lag black out, no EVF flickering and very responsive image review, touch LCD speed. Most importantly, I don't need fight with it to make it work for me when I need take the shot.

I know this tool will be great for lots of people here, I feel the responsibility to pass the informations, it is a lot of effort.

In the following weekend, I will go to Yosemite with family. Hopefully, I can get more meaningful images deserve Z7 and maybe report more features or bugs. My plan is D850 with Milvus 18mm and 70-200f4 with Z7/24-70S.

I spent some more time with the camera today and I must say that I am very pleased with the view finder, it is very fluent to work with. The grip works well but it is tight between the grip and the function buttons next to the lens so it's easy to press them by accident, maybe I just need to "train" my fingers.

Overall the camera is now much easier to work with when I have started to customise buttons and menus and I still have more work to do here, I have for instance not done any tripod work yet.

It will be interesting to see how I need to change my behaviour once I need to wear gloves, which probably isn't that far away in time. Some buttons will probably not be accessible with gloves on.

I am like others impressed with with the 27-70/4 delivers and I am looking forward to getting the 50/1.8 that I have pre-ordered and to see what Nikon will deliver in the future when it comes to Z lenses.

I got a mail from Novoflex today where they told me that my adapters (Leica M, Zeiss C/Y) will not be delivered until December, which is a bummer.

Some images with the zoom.

Thanks for the info about Novoflex, I just placed order from Ebay for Shorten one. I Can't wait that long. I might also add 50mm f1.8 later, that lens will be a winner based on samples I saw but what I really want is 58mm f0.95

You have nice lighting and color there. especially like the 2nd. I hope you can set Z7 as an extension of your creativity I do miss maybe one more customer button, however, record button bring up 'my manual' and 'i' button seems indeed cover all my need, just need one more push.

Another bummer, Multiple exposure of Z7 is JPEG only, I used D850 for better DR and smooth water without bulb mode which will give a combined single raw image with long exposure. I found this out when I try the feature at home before the trip. OK, one more bug. I don't put high hope Nikon will give back this feature. Again, not a show stopper, but not good.

The good new is Z7's silent shutter doesn't have DR penalty. https://blog.kasson.com/nikon-z6-7/nikon-z7-edr-vs-iso/
Z7 has touch screen shutter which eliminate need for shutter release cable for me. With silent shutter and exposure delay, this will give absolutely vibration free.

continue random images.

This time Zeiss ZF 50mm planar

minimal PP, not even applied lens profile. The Damn FTZ couldn't record aperture information for ZF.

Of most interest for many is the tear down of the Z7 by Kolarivision

http://kolarivision.com/nikon-z7-dissasembly-teardown/

The sensor cover thickness is half that of Sony, "coming in at 1.1mm...". The take away is that third party adapted lenses will definitely perform a lot better! This is very similar Kolarivison modification thicknesses except for the ultra thin mod which is 0.2mm.

This is promising news, maybe not good enough for all Leica M wide angle lenses but hopefully more M lenses will perform well on this sensor.

Good news on the thinner stack to be sure. Interesting they made a mount that can create less severe ray angles, and a sensor that’ll be less affected by them...

Still, some unknown with Kolari’s statements. Sony usually has a 0.7mm cover glass on their sensor that is near impossible to remove, Kolari cannot do it. The total So y stack is in a few layers and adds up to about 2.5mm. A Kolari UT is 0.9mm in total. So when they say Nikon is 1.1mm, what’s removable, what’s not, and are their assumptions about the thickness of fixed cover glass (if any).

Also worth nothing even 1.1mm won’t be enough for a lot of old RF film wides. For example, Contax G 28 is better with a 1.8mm stack and a 1500mm PCX than it is on a 0.7mm stack on its own. Conversely, newer M lenses like the M 40/1.2 is better on a 1.8mm stack than it is on a 0.7mm stack. So it’s really going to depend on your lenses...

Having spent 12 months testing M mount lenses with modified A7r's there are no absolutes. In the end I gave up with frustration. The surprise here is that the Z7 has an integrally designed 1.1mm sensor cover rather than as everyone expected around 2mm so until we test we do not know My interest is how it affects other native F mount lenses and other third party lenses. Does it improve the performance? Still early days!

Agreed, testing is definitely needed.

Again, not picking on Kolari, I really like them, Ilija saved my bacon on an A7 and converted an A7RII to Full Spectrum for me. But does Nikon use the same fixed glass as Sony? If Kolari can’t remove can they be sure of thickness? What’s the 1.1mm thickness based on. I’m sure they didn’t want to elaborate since it’s cause more confusion, but as you and I both found, thinner isn’t a guaranteed fix for all lenses, just want to temper expectations...

Great news what ever, could n't be worse than sony at least
All I need is its corner clear at f11.

I just come back from three day trip to Yosemite.Since this is a drive trip, I brought Z7/D850 and S007. D850 only used once at night, and I wasn't able to get any keeper due to not even moon light. (I think...) S007 took a few tripod landscape. Most of my images will be with Z7 and 80% from 24-70, rest 18mm Milvus and 70-200 f4.

I think after spend full three days with it, I think I got it. It is time to retire D850 for my personal use of it. I will keep DF for all my legacy lens OVF works.

This is the first MILC I feel it get essential nail down. I think I can't say enough good about 24-70S. It is not just sharpness, I don't see similar clarity and CA performance, no funkyness at corner, almost flare free from any zoom used. This is a set of prime IMO.

There is still discrepancy between viewing in EVF and final image, and during high contrast high DR scene, I need be careful to not let sun light hit into my EVF cup. As long as I manage to do it, the viewing is largely analog, deep shadow will always miss compare to OVF, but I can work with it. DISPLAY button is just next to the AFON, so you can quickly cycle it to watch Histogram to avoid highlight blow or cycle it to level during shooting, a neat feature to stitch. (I know a feature many MILC have, however, Nikon get the location right with very big button)

Keep in mind, for EVF button on side, only enable VF priority and LCD Monitor. later for tripod work only. This simplify the viewing choice of whole EVF based camera during shooting. It is intuitive and won't fight with you. A first.

There is a few minor issue I experienced, Small and wide area AF can lock to back ground with 70-200f4. It seldom happen with D850. AFC is no way as good as D850 I have to say. during 100% zoom, if you panning, you will notice slide show, there is noticeable delay. Normal shooting, even you panning, there is no delay. 24-70S manual focus is not feel right. However, I think I can rely on its AF, it did better job then my carefully 200% zoom manual focus.

Under deep darkness, both D850 and Z7 are about the same performance for viewing. USELESS. but this is the first time I shoot full darkness without even moon light. I have to rely on peaking and focus on star with EVF which seems feel more ergonomically comfort than D850's LCD. This make OTUS and Milvus etc real focus ring lens a lot more valuable than FBW lens. I just turn to the barrel location and shooting.

More come later maybe with images.

This was a cross post I answered about best alt body for adapt lens. Since this is mainly for Z. I will put it here as well. So many talk I know. I will post a few images after went through.

I didn't notice that delay during focusing actually. So no, it will not bother me at all. I bet it will not bother you guys as well for whenever you are doing magnification view for shooting. I did Aperture series with 24-70S, 24-70G, 28E, 55OTUS, I always do when I got new gear. I don't even notice that during shooting, I use manual focus for them all and later on I found out 24-70S’s AF at least was as good as my manual focus results. For magnified shooting, I am pretty sure your focusing is slower than delay. 24-70S FBW does

One nice thing if you own a late MacBook Pro with Usb-C then you also have an extra charger for free and the possibility to download directly from camera to the computer using the same cable you're charging with. Not a big deal but it's nice when for once you can re-use stuff between completely different devices.

I don't even have a XQD card reader yet. So I have to use usb-C cable from Z7 to transfer file.

Autumn is everywhere, it is good time for Z7 owners to show some color.

Has anybody notice that when you push "i" button, the LCD looks darker than normal manual screen. It seems I can't change it by changing LCD brightness. Under full sun, the icon from 'I' manual was harder to read.

One more information is: for 58mm G, I still need enter AF fine tune -5 for Auto-Area mode with face detection on. So I believe under this mode, it is pure PDAF.

24-70 s

This one shoot in 16:9 mode, I told you, this is a wonderful feature in field that you can select on fly. Fn2 and back wheel, no need to remove your eye from view finder.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1906/45218887271_af28697c32_h.jpg

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1973/43406254540_46014765aa_h.jpg

edit: I think I made a wrong claim that single point AFC and AFS are hybride AF, upon further test, I believe they are all PDAF. I don’t know what happen with my setting yesterday. Now I believe Z7’s Auto area face detection is not as good as D850. My focus fine tune was just compensate its back focus problem with face detection on. It can lock to back eye which seldom happen with D850. I noticed it’s back focus behavior with 70-200f4 during auto area with face detection on as well even with good day light. Not a big deal for me personally, but I hope it can be more reliable with future firmware update. And conclusion is I need AF fine all my AF f glass for Z7. I need a fast S glass to confirm if S glass having hybrids AF. Or maybe a real low light setting for FTz and F glass to see if Z7 have CDAF for f glass at all. Will update this later. Sorry for the wrong info, guys.
