A tougher test of compatibility would be the Summicron 35 ASPH. That struggles on modded cameras.

The 50 Lux Asph always disappointed me. I also found my M 50 Nocti f/1.0 and M 75 Lux rendered differently on the A7r/A7s to the point where I sold off these 2 favorites. The 35 Lux FLE seems to work very well but not quite as well as on a M240. It is those differences that some may accept but I could not as the expense of these M lenses were too high to keep rather than have native lenses.

Now I wish I did not sell my M glass

At the time I did have a lot of M glass so it was hard to justify keeping 70K AUD of glass waiting for another body after the A7 series. Your testing with the 21 SEM will be very interesting as this was a problematic lens.

Yeh, I hope that is it. It took so much time. 50lux is definitely show its age for 45M sensor cross frame. However, for this lens, I either at f1.4 or after f5.6. It is a perfect lens for me.

The only reason I did this is because many people curious about this information. My personal feeling is Z7 has very high pixel acuity due to high pixel count and no AA filter and now also thin sensor stack. I can see that difference during editing.

I absolutely love use the camera for either native lens and adapting on F and M mount glass. Given the performance of 35VC and 50 lux, I see no need for buying native lens as AF is never a must for my usage. Now that 21 and 15 also have high performance at least meet my standard, I am not sure I will get 14-30 now. But sometime, shooting prime is not a good option that once you are in the spot that can't move much, ZOOM is a better for getting better composition and higher IQ without crop or limitation of stitch. Who knows, but I am sure I will not preorder the zoom but wait for review.

Thank you very much for the test images, this is very exciting news! Now I all of a sudden have hope for my 24/3.8 Elmar, it�s such an excellent lens so I would be really thrilled if it played well with the Z7. My adapter will not arrive for a while so I have to wait before testing my set of M lenses.

Too bad about the missing EXIF data and no Ibis but the important thing is that the Z7 looks like a good platform for M glas.

Thank you so very much Michael! The testing you have done is a lot of work and I am really pleased about the 50 Lux

I have always been a 50mm shooter and this really excites me. The 50 Lux is just an amazing lens for its size/weight and rendering... wow. I had spent 4 weeks originally testing the 50 Lux on the A7r and then the Kolari modified sensor and I was never happy.

I now would love to get the M 50 Noct f/1.0 Mandler again and test on the Z7

Can you clarify something about the IBIS please? You wrote that it does not work for the target FL even though you can input the focal length. By that do you mean it will not work at all, or it will work but not optimized for the FL you input?
Either way I'd hope Nikon could fix that with a FW update, otherwise I see no point in allowing input of the FL.

Thanks Michael for the test. I think the extreme corner of SEM still looks a bit poor but honestly, I don't remember how the corner of SEM supposed to look like on a M body anymore but I understand that it supposed to be sharp all the way into the corner with no field curvature on M body, no? I do have 24/3.8 that I am curious to see how it would match Z7. I have been waiting patiently for my local dealer to get in a Kipon adapter which I hope will be very soon otherwise I might break down and order one from ebay.

I had 50 Lux Asph for a little while as well and was not overly excited about it on A7r at that time and sold it. However, I still have 50/2 apo, 50/1.4 pre asph and Noct .95 and I would love to try these on Z7 whenever my adapter arrive

These look great.

I was wondering if you had you used the M glass on the SL? If so... how does the Z7 compare optically.

I have been thrilled with the performance of the M glass on the SL, and the SL glass as you know is off the charts.

I was reviewing my shots this evening with the 21 SEM on the M240 and the edge performance @ f/3.4 is very similar. Of course when you stop it down is becomes sharper very similar to the Z7 above.

Thanks Charles, that is a very good news indeed. I broke down and bought Leica SL awhile back because I want to use some of the Leica lenses that did not play well with A7r x and I love Leica 90-280 but decided to sell SL earlier this year as I was not using it as much as I thought I would. Despite the excellent SL lenses, I think the camera sensor really fall behind the competitors quite a bit. But look like beside 90-280, I won't miss the SL much for other usage.

Ahh, thanks. So it does the same as The Sony bodies; you set the FL, no EXIF is reported but IBIS works for that FL ...

There is a roundabout way to test as well. Put in a wildly wrong FL, eg a WA FL for a tele lens, or a tele FL for a WA lens. If IBIS is trying to steady the lens with the wrong FL you'll see an image in the VF that is jerking around all over the place.
I may or may not have done this ...
