In my opinion, retailers shouldn't be allowed to accept offers on GT if they don't have the item in stock (or it should at least be communicated and the buyer offered the option to wait prior to accepting). This has happened to me multiple times with CC.
It's part of the gig. You're getting premium products at steep discounts in same cases.
Quality, speed, and price. You can't have 'em all.
I use GT when I have the time, otherwise I pay full price. Seems fair.

It doesn't have to be part of the gig though. I would guess that the majority of people posting in this thread who have had issues would have little to complain about if communication was at an acceptable level. Some would accept the lead time delay for the price savings and some would move on to other options.
There are posts by GT reps on this site stating: "We do not allow retailers to accept offers if they do not have inventory in hand." The problem is that isn't reality. Giving up speed for price is fine but it's something that should be communicated clearly before an offer is finalized.

I’m close to $10K with Cardinal too and they have only had one major delay which they made right by me. Beats paying retail.

I guess I’ve dodged a few bullets. So far about $10K in purchases from Cardinal spread among GFX and Sony. Other than it taking a little longer than I would have preferred my experiences been great.

Absolutely true. Cardinal took two weeks to order a product for me and then stuck me with the bill for quick shipping after they took so long. So that claim by GT is completely false.

That's absurd. Companies make mistakes, and in this case, there are many moving parts. When something goes wrong, most people complain. When something goes right, some people might complain.
It's unfair and careless to accuse GT or Cardinal Camera of a systemic theft problem based on the info available in this thread.
Not really. The store owner personally told me that his policy is that return window starts counting when you place an order and the time they take to order it themselves, ship it, and to arrive, counts toward the return time period. The shop is crooked from the top down. Not to mention the fact that the woman there constantly told mistruths about when the product would get in stock, said she would update me with a call or email and never did.
But like most places, the people that get lucky will be happy and they will continue to get away with it.
See, mistakes happen. That isn't the problem. The problem comes when the store doesn't do right by the customer.

My experience earlier this year with Cardinal was really bad. They took an order for something they did not have in stock, saying it would ship in 3 days, which it did not. They then said new confirmed stock was coming and it would ship in 6 days, which it did not. They kept saying it was coming..... 2 weeks later when they could not provide a shipping date I cancelled the order, and the owner called me so say my order didn't matter as he had 15 others for the same item!!! (Which they did not have in stock). They never issued a refund to my PayPal account and after a week and a couple of emails with no response I finally had Paypal get involved. After another week, Paypal in their email to me said " after numerous attempts to contact the seller with no response on Cardinals part, we are issuing you a 100% refund". So look at it this way, Cardinal had my $1,500 for 5 weeks free without having to pay any interest or deliver a product. And they were pulling the same BS with possibly 15 others.
It is definitely buyer beware with Cardinal! They are now blacklisted on my GT account.

This is a usual tactic for retailers. "Sure - we'll order it for you!" The quiet part is they hold on to your money and don't tell you whether they eventually get it. They hope you forget about your order.

This is a real problem. I have never bought from this seller and will never do so with this type of attitude or behavior. Let's hope the "15 others" are not on FM.

Over the last couple years, I have bought the A7RIII, A7RIV, 200-600, Tamron 70-180, Sony 85 f1.8, maybe a couple small items too from Cardinal, either through GT or directly with the owner. They are not as communicative as the big retailers, but they delivered, in most cases, shipping was very fast too.

Lately, I have noticed that I do not get many counter offers on Sony gear on GT. Few times that I have tried, I got the exact same counter offer which leads me to believe that only one supplier is responding. In the past, I used to get multiple counter offers or at least the suppliers were willing to negotiate now they just let the offer expire.

I am sorry to hear about the OP's ordeal.
I normally would not reveal who I dealt with on GT (as this is what they request), but since the vendor has been revealed, in a negative light, in this thread, I feel compelled to share my experience. I dealt with Cardinal Camera thru GT multiple times and it all worked out for me. For one deal, they asked me if I would accept a white-box item from a kit, I said no, I'd rather wait. Eventually I got the specified item (not white-box) with a short delay.
My impression is that they are a small operation with low inventory. I have multiple cameras and lenses that I can use (too many, in fact ), so I am usually not in a hurry. Based on MY experience only, I think they are trying within their capabilities to get me a good deal, and I am willing to put up with a little inconvenience.

Has anyone noted that the Op of this thread has a grand total of 15 posts on FM and that all of her posts on FM are part of this thread? And that she hasn't been here to post about this or anything else for two years?
Hard to evaluate a complaint coming from an unknown person who seems mainly to be seeking revenge and to cause damage to the other party, a store who is in business, making a living, hiring people, and who has lots of positive support from other members here who are well-known to the forum.
I think it would be good if this thread with its provocative title were locked.

I've been around a while, with feedback in the buy and sell forum to boot, and I detailed fairly thoroughly multiple complaints I have.. Their lying repeatedly, their perverse interpretation on return period which makes returns literally impossible, and how they order lenses only after they receive the order and then stick you with extra charges if you want it quickly.
That is fine, lock the thread. Then, I could create one with the same title, but am more "qualified" I guess. In reality, you are simply trying to censor justified criticism. The title is more than justified. The owner of the store is a complete crook and has no class. The descriptions of his responses here are right in line with what I dealt with.
