I expected this too but the rumor is 105mm front element. The tripod collar on this lens which is missing from the 135 supports the theory that this will be MUCH bigger.
I'm suspicious that the filter size is the same as the FL. Could be a typo or something got lost in translation. This would make it as large as a 200 f/2. This a fairly paraxial design, why would you need such massive filters given front element is 75mm? Does the 135 f/1.8 have severe vignetting. Making a design so large to possibly eliminate any trace of vignetting seems extreme
If this is true it could be a ridiculously large and heavy lens for it's FL, making the Samyang 50 f/1.2 look like a featherweight.

Entrance pupil should be 75mm for 105mm/1.4. But the entrance pupil is very likely a bit behind the lens front. So the front element needs to be bigger.
105mm filter thread is very big, perhaps they planned enough coverage for the Fuji GFX as well.
I got a Phillips SK 100mm/1.5 lens few weeks ago, so I am happy. Only need to adapt it somehow with helicoid to my Sony, and see how bad the CA´s are.

I was likewise surprised at this aspect but I believe it is actually true. 86mm seems like it would be much more reasonable but consider:
1) The 85 f/1.4 has an 86mm front filter which is well above what it "needs" to be based on entrance pupil. A 105 f/1.4 sure as hell won't be smaller
2) It's Sigma, they aren't exactly known for keeping the size reasonable.
3) The rumored picture shows very clearly "105mm" and phi 105 on the top by the distance scale. So it's not a translation error.
Like I said, I am more just curious how this thing actually performs just based on the sheer ridiculousness of the design. The much less ridiculously designed 135 is simply stunning. Whoever said this might be designed to cover GFX/miniMF as well might be on to something.

Very possible this could be for the Sony A mount...Actually it would make more sense based on previous Sigma releases.
That lever on the posted Image on the mount would be somewhat correct for Sony A-mount.
Does not look like F-Mount and not like EF-Mount.
But: For A-Mount the lever should be on the lower part of the mount to match the cameras lever.
So for me the image looks photoshopped. Not sure which details could be correct, and which are only dreams.
I've just cancelled an order for an 85 1.4 GM, which was a very good price, while I wait for more info on this.
I've already got the FE 85 1.8, but was re-buying the 85 1.4 GM for outdoor portraits with thin DOF. A 105 1.4 would achieve the look I want better I think, but I'm a bit nervous about how much this thing will weigh and how much it will cost.
I love that no matter what is released, 75% of the comments are negative.....when the Batis135 was announced, EVERYONE bashed it for being ONLY 2.8.. now Sigma releases a fast 105 and the size/weight are the primary CONCERNS. Like a bunch of grumpy old men.....

I used the Nikkor 105 F1.4 last night Commlite adapted on my A9. Backlite scenes flared when even a bit of stage light struck the objective, I have gone as far to buy a snugger/longer aftermarket 82mm screw in lens hood.
Makes for a much larger package when the lens hood doesn’t nest on the lens though. By the look of the Sigma 105 picture their native lens hood may be even less effective than the Nikkor. Sounds like a detail but it is really a big deal for this lens.
Sigma hasn’t made a new Sony A mount lens since the 24-35 f2 I believe (I always wanted the 24 1.4 but it never happened), so I doubt this would be A mount

I think their 50/1.4 Art is offered as an A-mount but you are right, the Sigma 85/1.4, 135/1.8 or newly released Art lenses don't supported Sony A.

I agree! The forum should be renamed The Grumpy Old Men Forum

Size and weight are valid concerns. Given the 105mm filter diameter, lens foot and considering the 85 Art already weighed almost 1.2kg, it is likely the 105 will be even heavier.
The Batis being only 2.8 together with the high price are valid points of criticism, too, in my opinion. However, Zeiss managed to really make the Batis great at f2.8 already, in a lightweight package. At 135mm f2.8 is enough to provide for some nice rendering, although I personally would have preferred f2 to gain a stop at events.

All lenses fit in to one of two categories: too heavy, and not fast enough
Just wish it was a 200 F2 I’d be first in line at that size and weight. I have thought recently about buying back the GM 85 1.4. So it something to look at. I just hope it’s far better focusing ability now as a native mount than with the MC-11 is with current Canon mounts. As a lens whore never leave anything out. Certainly should be a fun lens to shoot.
One thing of note and maybe a good sign us they have not discounted the MC-11 which would indicate this lens truly maybe native and more rumored of 7 other lenses now it seems. I’ll believe all this in a press release directly from Sigma
