Just wondering.... Is anyone willing to rent me a Canon 24-70 for June 14th-18th? I have a concert to shoot and was looking to rent this lens. If I cant rent it I will buy and re-sell so anyone interested in buying one?
Nice shots Gary! Tell grant to stick 1 or 2 up as well.
We toured the Hearst Castle this weekend. Pretty amazing place. No flash allowed anywhere on the grounds
So, I played with ISO 3200 on the 5. it worked pretty well but there were windows in every room right at the edges. I wasn't very successful getting balanced shots.
Anyway, we had fun and visited some nice wineries in Paso Robles.
Today I met RobinQW at the Gwinnett Arena to shoot the Gladiator's Game.
Thanks Robin for the invitation and explaining the game to me as it was the first time I attended a hockey game.
It was a great opportunity to improve my skills with action photography and using the 70-200 IS
Here are my best shots:
Well Grant and I are back in Kenya, waiting for our flight to Atlanta. I have service and decided to update you all with more images. So for Grant has not sent me any of his to upload. It's been a great trip, but man am I ready to be home.
Grant and I had a fantastic trip to Africa. The experience was more than I had expected. The local folks where very accommodating, the food was incredible and our guides were the best. I can't begin to express what a fantastic trip this was. I hope the images I have posted will convey a since of Kenya's wildlife and the feeling one gets while they are on Safari. I have many more places to see and photograph, but Africa will be a destination that I will soon return too.
Thanks for the nice comments, I'm not sure you can take a bad image considering the subjects you have to shoot. This was a trip of a lifetime for myself!!
Glad to be back in the USA and looking forward to the next trip.
After 12 hours sleep and trying to catch up with my mail and all the things that needed immediate attention I am finally getting time to go through my images. Like Gary said, this was an incredible trip and we saw just about everything but the Leopard. We were so close to a mother Cheetah and her cub that I could not focus with the 100-400. I had to switch to a wide angle. The mother and cub both chewed on the mud flap of the Landrover just below my window. They get on the shaded side of the Landrover and almost totally disregard us in the vehicle. They like to lie in the shade as there is little available there. I took my wide angle lens for scenic and landscape shots but used it several times on the animals. We were about three feet from elephants at one point.
The guides are incredible as they can immediately identify all the birds and animals and know many of the places they frequent by heart. Most have been guiding for over ten years and they all speak very good english. The staff at all the camps where we stayed were wonderful and the food was delicious. Each camp had a different type setting and character to it and although you hated to leave one the next place was just as good. Weather couldn't have been any better. Warm days but cool nights.
Gary took a laptop and gave a lot of the people traveling with us as well as some of the staff and others a preview of each days shoot which was a treat to everyone. "Thanks Gary"
2. Our tented camps had large canvas tents on platforms built above the ground with modern bathrooms at the rear of each one. This particular camp had netting around the entire bed.
3. We left for game drives on some mornings at 6:30 and had breakfast while out in the Landrovers around 9:00. We returned to camp for lunch around 12:30 and a little time to relax before going back out on evening game drives at 4:00.
