Great shots Alfred. I really like the intensity of the last one. Looks like you were in a good location with both of your shots. What lens did you use on the first one?
Robert it looks like you were in a crowd for sure but you got the winner. Nice shots.
AlfredB, nice shots. I wish we had a few clouds.
Robert, I missed the finish line taunting. I planned to switch to a wider lens before the finsh lap and got too excited and forgot.
This is where we set up. It would have been a real good spot, but as Robert said, the media people with a pass moved in front of us. (Damn photographers ) The biggest lens I saw in the media area was the 300mm f/2.8 you see below/right. The lady in the beret to the right had a 1Ds with a 75-300mm lens?:
Like those sprint shots Robin. I will check out your pbase shots later tonight.
Mark I was just lucky with the timing and was really fortunate for them to have blocked the road with just a few cars in front of me. All this took place in something like 5 to 7 minutes and I got off 12-15 shots (They came up that steep hill pretty fast). The 70-200 was the only lens I had with me and it was really too long as they got really close to me. I could have used a wide angle and got some pretty good shots but you know how that goes. I wasn't prepared to do any photography Sunday anyway.
Sorry I haven't been able to be involved in the past few outings, but work has been taking most of my time. Business has been outstanding these past few months and with soccer starting this weekend, I expect to be booked solid for the next four weekends. Then it is off on a photo safari with Grant for two weeks in Africa. To say I'm excited would be a true understatement.
I'm seeing allot of new members to the group.........a hearty welcome. I look forward to shooting with everyone at some point during the year. The concept of having local members get together to share a day in the field
was the reason I started this thread. It has evolved into a friendly group, of which I'm happy to be a part.
This my first safari with Grant, though I think the group makes the trip every year. Hopefully Grant will chime in about the 2007 schedule. I'm also looking at a trip to Costa Rica sometime in December of this year. It's been over 20 years since I was last in Africa and that was just a two day trip from Spain. So to be able to spend 14 days in country to photograph is a dream come true.
So I'm looking forward to the airshow this weekend. I will be busy on Saturday and attending the airshow on Sunday. Two things come to mind at the moment:
1) Its looking like it will rain on Sunday
2) They must have hired the TSA for security, because their tips for the day and security rules are in conflict with each other.
If you read the rules, its sounds like the only storage you can get away with bringing in (maybe) a fanny pack. I wanted to wear my thinktank belt- but it might be a long trek back to the car if they say no...
Beacuse of the weather on Sunday- I'm going over there on Friday. Blue Angles SOP is to fly in Thursday afternoon and practice the show twice on Friday. I'm thinking the worst I could do is the Pep Boys parking lot at the end of Dobbins runway- but I'm open to other suggestions for places with a decent view. Ideas
Hi Rich, If you are definitely interested in Africa for the 2007 trip drop me an email so that I can put you on the list to notify in late 2006. This trip has to be planned well in advance and requires an early commitment to hold a spot. We go mostly to East Africa (Kenya & Tanzania). Safaris have become extremely popular lately and good accomodations, flights to and from Nairobi and reputable guide services are limited.
I will be flying into Atlanta next week for some training for three days. I am from PA , I was thinking of taking my camera. Is there some interesting places to shoot? I should have some free time in the evenings.
I'm looking to hook up with some experienced sports shooters here in the Atlanta area. Please email me at kecohen (at) edaphoto (dot) com or phone 770-754-1517.
Some of you might be interested in this. Saturday night in Athens, GA is when the Athens Twilight Criterium Bike race will be held. Handcycling event first, then womens with the mens event last. See www.athenstwilight.com for further information. This is a fun event especially if you get there early and have dinner. Photographing it can be fun and challenging because of the nightime action. I will be there with my cycling group but will be photographing too.

Just saw the weather report and Saturday looks like it may be dry for the show. Sunday still looks like rain.
Yeah that security looks pretty rough. Last time I was able to take my backpack without a problem. This year I guess I am going with my 70-200 and a 1.4x.
The Pep Boys at the end of the runway should be pretty good. There is also a vacant lot across Atlanta Rd. at the other end of the runway. It may be less crowded than the Pep Boys.
I am going to wait for the weather reports closer to the weekend before I decide on which day to go but right now it looks like Saturday. Let me know if you decide to make it one of the show days.
I had to run home to Smyrna and the Blue Angel are already in town and were practicing over the Smyrna/Vinings area. Saturday is shaping up to be a beautiful day weather wise.
I had a feeling I should have headed over there today. I will be in the area tommorow to take some pictures. I'll be in SC on Sat so I'll miss the good weather I'll just have to hold out hope for a decent sunday..
