Hey folks, I just got back home from giving a presentation at a conference in Boston. All went well and now I'm hoping to get back to the photography. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to join you all for the Smokies trip. But I hope we can plan an outing down to E,L, Huie sometime in the near future if there's interest.

Also, just wanted to give folks a heads up just in case anyone is in the market for a tripod. I got tired of waiting on the new Feisol and decided to get the Gitzo 1325. Interestingly, it was about $30 cheaper purchased from Adorama through Amazon than from Adorama or B&H directly.

Also want to add my congratulations to Bob on the marathon! Glad you're back.

-Todd

Todd,

I'd be interested in a trip back to E L Huie this weekend, great place by the way. I'm pretty sure that at least one other member will be jonesing to go also.

Cheers
Gary

Gary, the pair of canadian geese is a great piece of work. Excellent color, feather detail and composition.

Gary,

E.L. Huie this weekend sounds great! What's your availability? If there's a choice I'd probably prefer Satuday but could probably manage Sunday as well. If possible would be great to get there early for the best light and most activity. I got there about 8AM last time I went and that seemed to be a good time. .

Bob,

Thanks for the kind words.

Todd,

I let you know tomorrow as to which day will be best. Though I found the last part of the day the best, the evening light is great, but early morning will work also.

Cheers

I had planned on going down there my first available day, which is Monday. Don't scare all the birds away this weekend.

Ok Folks,

Looks like we have some plans for a shoot at E.L. Huie this Saturday.
The plans are to meet at Thomas' Restaurant at the Atlanta State Farmers Market at 7:30AM for breakfast and then on to E.L. Huie. The watershed is about 15 minutes south of there.

Here are directions:

All are welcome!

See you there,

Todd

I just checked the weather forecast for Saturday. Solid overcast and strong winds, with a cold front moving in that morning. Doesn't sound too promising for wildlife photography. Sunday morning is sunny with 5-10 mph winds. I could meet you all Sunday, if you change your plans.

you would think from seeing the pictures in this thread that atlanta photographers were all nature photographers

Trent:

Naw, it's just that nature treks seem to be a lot easier to put together. Suggest a different type of shoot and you'll be surprised (pleasantly, I trust) at the interest and turnout.

John, I had suggested going to a Braves game to shoot and surprisingly, the interest was zero.

Bob:

I missed that post - I would have gone. But, yes I'm surprised at that one as well. Well I hope the group proves me wrong and starts suggesting some other outings. As for me, I'm up for a sports shoot, landscape or even city wildlife. Heck, let me know your next marathon and I'll even come for that

I just wanna make photos!

with leo gone, I don't know if I want to go.

I'm up for not actually a shoot but a meeting social and self motivation group.

Its great meeting photographers of various skill levels and ideas to stimulate productive growth and criticism.

Possibly a social meet, with a mandatory three print out attendence

How did the shoot go today? I'm glad that the weather was better than predicted. This will be my first time going there, tomorrow morning. I have directions, but after I arrive at the facility are there any further directions? Where would be the best place to set up? Post some pics.

Bob....The shoot went very well at E.L. Huie today. Todd, Gary, and I spent the day learning, laughing, and loafing.... . Conditions weren't all that bad in the early a.m., and they improved as the day wore on. I've just now returned, so haven't even downloaded any images yet.

As far as directions go....once you've entered through the one and only main gate, things are incredibly simple. You can choose to go right or left.....doesn't matter. And, from that point, you'll have your choice of traversing around any of the 5 large man-made lakes/ponds that comprise the treatment center. Basically, you'll just want to go where the birds are....and shoot from the angle where the light is best.

Good luck!

Greg
