I like #3 the best because of the overall range of color. Plus the effect of dark top and bottom draws your eyes to around the center- thats a great use of framing and composition- pull the viewer in to the photo.

The first one doesn't grab me. The use of color is not selective enough to add a punch or highlight to my viewing of the photo. Personally I would use a crop style something similar to #2 on #1 and make the color a "band" going thru the city in the lower half of the photo (eg the top of the skyline would just go thru the center line of the picture.

But "punch" is all a matter of taste.

I had to pull over and stop on Wednesday evening because of a double rainbow effect I saw while driving. The primary rainbow was so intense all the colors were plainly visible and you could get the whole thing in frame.

By the time I dug out the WA lens it had faded a touch, I haven't had the chance to d/l and look at the few I took yet.

Hi Grant...I gotta look that place up and take the kids. Your pics make it look irresistable!

Dave...can't believe you got an 85 1.2...Very cool! I love that second shot!

I put "Blue Angels at Dobbins" in my calendar for this weekend. Does anyone know anything about this or did I just make it up?

Tracey - This weekend there is an air show at Dobbins, but it's the Thunderbirds - the Air Force's show team (Blue Angels is Navy). They'll be flying F-16s and are quite impressive - saw them just over a year ago in Colorado. I'm not sure if I'll be able to see much of the show, but it should be a good one.

The USAF and USN used to alternate airshows at Dobbins. The Navy announced they are done hosting at Dobbins. This appearance could be the last of the Tbirds as well.

[The rest reposted from POTN]

Fair warning- these are not easy-in-easy-out events for the faint of heart. This year the show is hosted by the Air Force side of the base so it should be better then the last one (hopefully no shuttle buses will be involved)

The schedule is normally 90% the same on Sat / Sun airshows. Sometimes the scheduled fly-bys will be different due to the training schedules of the home units. For example a B-2 stealth bomber might fly a mission down the east coast visiting ball games and a few airshows before heading back to base.

The Thunderbirds will close the show both days, the headliners at any airshow usually go up between 3 and 4pm for about a 45 minute show.

I will bring both cameras and the 300, 400, 70-200L and some 1.4x extenders to the show. Don't forget a chair!

Here is an old shot I have handy:

I am thinking about hitting the show on Sunday myself. I caught the Blue Angels a couple of years ago and would love a chance to catch the Thunderbirds. If anyone is interested in car pooling to the show shoot me a PM. I live off of Atlanta Rd near 285 so it is a short drive. I would like to be at the show by 8:00 to get a good spot.

Congratz on the 85 1.2...man I want one of those.

Just got back from the cruise. Had a blast. Got to see the shuttle on the launch pad at the port. Didn't take the 300 but I had the 30D with 1.4 TC and 70-200...will look through the images later....

Glad to be back.

Did anyone make it to the airshow this past weekend? I'd love to see some shots!

We ended up going to the Cherokee National Forest just east of Cleveland, TN. I am loving living so close to the mountains!

I stink at landscape photography, but even I can grab a snapshot of something that beautiful!

nice shot, is that a stitch panorama? beautiful details and sky. you guys take such awesome photos consistently! i was about to say Cleveland where was that because I went to law school in Cleveland and it definitely didn't look like that. East of TN's version is much better than East of OH version

here is my latest PP attempts on my hockey game. My lesson was basically that its better to shoot at higher iso and have a proper exposure then to shoot at a lower ISo and under expose - way more noise! These were all shot through the glass, which led to under exposures and additional grain. Smuggled the 70-200 2.8 in and shot at iso 800 @ 2.8 using AI servo on the xsi. hand held.

...ask and ye shall receive...

The shooting conditions were though with the performers backlit most of the day. I managed to get a few keepers- but not as many as I would like.
