Edward, you seem sure about that and I hope your right.
I don't have insider info but subtle and not so subtle hints from people in the know
The M8 to this day is the most naked sensor ever in a digital camera, and that's why it remains a great camera compared to all those higher MP APS-C pretenders.
Leica was really trying to push the envelope on the M8 sensor, and they asked for only .5mm of S8162 Schott IR cut as cover glass. No filter stack of course.
Wasn't quite enough to mask the non-visible, but it's why the M8 was so great BW, and so distinctive. It's a really sharp camera even today.
The corrosion of the M9 was also a bet that went bad. Same type of coverglass but .8mm. No glass has better IR curves, I think even today. But it is layered obviously sensitive to humidity. The BG 55 replacement has 10% less transmission more or less, I'm told. Safer, but not quite as good.
I think they won't be as bold in the future, so your filters are safe, but some new M8 user would probably love them ...Show more →
The M8 was great with color as well but indeed stunning with b/w. Like Gary I was doubting many times about buying an M8 again. Especially since my old M8 came for sale again a couple of years after I sold it.
Whats also great about the M8, it takes IR pictures .

Indeed it does Edward, although focus remained a challenge
Actually, my chosen IR-weapon these days is a Ricoh GXR A12 module with a 720nm IR conversion. Focus is easier and I can use my LM lenses (indeed any lens with an LM adapter) to my heart's content.
Looking forward to seeing what the M10 brings, but still happy with my M9 and 1956 M3 SS
This would be the camera that I want. Not a RF. That is not a knock to the M10. But the reality is that I my vision is pretty poor. I would probably never get the results I could with the EVF.

You're getting exactly what you want in a couple of months. A mini SL, probably M shaped, with the latest EVF and video technology. You will still need the M adapter but that's a small inconvenience.
I love what Leica is doing. It is making everyone happy, except the price naggers.
Not officially confirmed, but you can hold me responsible if it's not announced in the next couple of months

I have a loaner SL right now and it's about 90% of the way to perfect for my needs. I can hardly wait to see what the 'mini SL' is like.

Haha! And the M8 also has a top SS of 1/8000 for ZhanMing12.

Given how Leica loves releasing numerous niche products in a staggered manner, I wouldn't be surprised to see an EVF camera that offers video but fits in somewhere closer to the M than the SL. The question is whether it will be M mount and MF...? But I would guess at a summer announcement to give the M10 some time in the limelight.
As for the M10... No big divergence from the rumors. Seems solid. Hopefully it's well refined. I'm curious how much better the viewfinder is. I will look at it more seriously in a year or so.
Very nice! I like the bigger buttons on the back and the ISO dial. But I typically shoot in auto-ISO so I guess it doesn't really matter for me. Nice that they have kept it a bit thinner as well. Nothing there for me to want to upgrade but I like how they are keeping it basic.
Having spent a few minutes poring over the M10 specs, I admit a total lack of GAS for the M10. I am going to stay with the M 240 for the foreseeable future.
I am mostly interested in how they implement the NR? If it is no longer mandatory, it will give me a good reason to upgrade along with better ISO and less delay in EVF mode.
